...or you could just bring the proof of insurance to court, keep your mouth shut, and the judge will throw out the charge.

Also, he should call the cops on that security guard. The only time a security guard is authorized to pull a weapon is in order to prevent a crime. Either to a person or the property they guard. Have that sack of crap arrested for threats and get his license pulled.

Still have to pay court costs in Alabama. Their way of being assholes. I can't wait to get out of this fucking state.

My court costs were 70 bucks.... it would have cost around 4000 to plea not guilty.... pffhhh, or I could have done 6 months community service but I was leaving that state and the court date was already holding me there so I went the quick way and gave myself a record.

he has it covered... this is his area of expertise so ill trust him there.

Very rarely but something in particular, which I didn't think was problem at the time but on reflection clearly was, came back to haunt me. It's never worth sacrificing your principles for personal gain, but sometimes we need reminding. Socrates was entirely right when he said the principle is more important than the outcome.

Okay I'm feeling like a total liar liar pants on fire here, I lie every single day to people. Any time someone (be it family, friend etc) asks how I'm doing I just do the polite chatter thing and say that life is utterly groovy. Unless of course it is my Owner asking.

I'm in what are likely flammable PJs lol.

I have as a matter of tact, privacy or to keep things pleasant when engaging others. But I am highly principled much like NorthernGent. I draw lines in the sand not only for others, but myself as well in order to live life authentically.

As someone who also has chronic pain issues, also guilty as charged. That said so are the vast majority who ask how I am. How are you has become an automatic question, I think most who ask it just want to hear "I'm fine/great/awesome" and look like a deer caught in the headlights if any answer other than a positive one is given. So I lie and tell them I'm just great even if I'm not.

I lie because very few people are comfortable with my truth, that 95% of the time I'm feeling like crap and teetering on the edge. People simply don't want to hear it, are uncomfortable with it and unsure of how to respond.

It is much easier on everyone else.

If that makes me unprincipled or non authentic then so be it.

Telling the truth would drive people away and make them unhappy on my behalf.

Oh no my dear, we do exactly the same thing, however I take things further for privacy sake. I'm not as good at "letting people in" as most other people. I'm working on it. Your sense of humor is something I enjoy and I understand how that creates some "balance". I just don't want to tell people close to me "you annoy the living fuck out of me" when they do. So to speak, LOL. Love them to pieces though. I also lie through omission by not letting vanilla folk know of my kinkterests.

Exactly.

A) It is utterly depressing to hear from someone day after day.
B) Most asking "How are you?" really just want the polite bland reply, yes that includes family and friends for me.
C) It is embarrassing/saddening to rattle of the litany of issues I'm dealing with.

"Well today the vertigo is so bad I've fallen twice and it isn't even noon! I think I'm spiking a fever again but it is hard to tell, I sure feel like I'm feverish. My skin burns, it itches but if I touch it then it burns. So gee how is your day going?"

No.

"I'm great, the sun is finally out!" that is my response.

I think I felt defensive which is silly of me, and lol due to feeling like road kill today. Not just road kill but the kind that has been flattened for weeks until it has become part of the pavement. Ew. :D

And sometimes I admit to just wanting to blurt it all out, but I can't. It feels like an unfair burden to lay upon others even though I really really wish I could. It is a tad easier online where I can't see faces, but even online I tend to lie through my pearly whites.

that's exactly it plus I'm protecting myself because the feigned interest in the litany of pain issues hurts more than lying and saying I'm fine. That said there are those who have a genuine interest and will ask how my issues are. Of course I tell them the truth. Everyone else gets the easy but false answer.

Not me! I was born a full-fledged and rather brilliant adult.

I knew it!

So are you Aphrodite, born fully grown from sea foam, or Athena, sprung as an adult from Zeus's skull?

Since I collect skulls (honest I do, I've a growing collection of awesome Dead Things) I will have to admit that I'm the progeny of Zeus's skull.

Nice to meetchya!

[Brackets mine] Wrong question. It should be
quote:

ORIGINAL: TheTrickster

[Why h]ave you ever lied or stretched the truth?

Those people who are brutally honest might pat themselves on the back (they have to do it for themselves because they've chased everyone else off), but there is middle ground.

Also, there is a difference between the truth and a fact. One can speak factually, but that doesn't make it the absolute truth. Every baby is not physically appealing in looks, but every baby is precious.

Sometimes I can't tell somebody the unvarnished truth because they can't handle the truth. So I keep my mouth shut instead, or I might bide my time.

At other times, I don't want to hurt someone's feelings, so I might exercise tact.

I have also been in that place where I could not honesty say I was fine when asked. I would say, "Things could be better" or "Not so good, but it'll pass."

Have I ever told an outright lie? Sure, but I didn't feel right about myself afterward. Also, telling little white lies can become an unhealthy compulsion. I expect my friends and family to be truthful with me, and they know that I'll do the same with them.

[Edited to fix quote box]

Ah! My girl dressed for Day of the Dead as the Celtic goddess (can't think of her name) who collects the skulls of dead warriors in her shawl.

So good company.

Somewhere in the garage is a shoe box with a deer skull in it.

Of course I've lied. Lying is an essential trait to the development of civilization. Without it, we wouldn't be able to go through a day without hitting someone over the head with a hammer. Instead we smile, lie and tell ourselves what an asshat they are.

However, going beyond that, I've been clear with people that I have no interest in being the messenger if they shoot the messenger. And in such case, if they can't control themselves, expect me to lie to them.

You would be surprised how many people have never acknowledged that they make it unsafe to speak the truth to them.
