Just wondering what all of you guys get up to in your free time. What do you make? Where do you sell it? How's business? :D [sm=writing.gif]

I run a political commentary website. I play guitar, bass, drums and sing so, I do some recording, when I'm not going to school, full time or hanging about with you lot.

~FRing it~

I cross stitch. I don't sell any of my things I've done though. It's either kept or I'll give it away

Rock3tOwls -> RE: Fellow Crafty People (1/23/2015 4:52:33 PM)

I've thought about learning how to cross stitch myself. I crochet, mostly. :)

satanscharmer -> RE: Fellow Crafty People (1/23/2015 4:54:41 PM)

Photography, drawing and writing. I rarely share any of them, except with my spouse and children.

DerangedUnit -> RE: Fellow Crafty People (1/23/2015 4:55:40 PM)

I draw, more stylized if it's just for me... realistic if I'm giving it as a gift. Cats, wedding photos, a few furry porn commissions that I just told them I don't need anything for. It's drawing I couldn't get paid for it or I wouldn't do it.

I make clothes, mostly for myself but I trade stuff at meet ups with friends and have done a few for money though since it's just for friends I don't charge much more than material costs unless it's just tedious work... if it's little seamstressy stuff it's just show them how to do it themselves.

All of my other hobbies tend to switch up, I like novelty so so I do something for a while then forget it and try something else. Currently I'm building a custom gaming rig that looks like bmo from adventure time.

Crochet, knit, do some volunteer work, I'm a burgeoning Paleo aficionado, and I spend lots (lots) of time in the kitchen.

I also binge-watch Netflix, start tasks I never finish, and find excuses to stay home and hibernate each weekend. It's all very exhausting.

It's actually really fun and pretty easy to learn :)

I admire the patience you all seem to have.... I tried crocheting when when I was younger, set out to make a blanket and got bored at a pot holder

usememistress775 -> RE: Fellow Crafty People (1/23/2015 6:19:57 PM)

Here I was hoping it was a thread for devious, I mean "crafty" minds. About the only thing I can make is trouble, or a mess. Neither is a good thing to give or sell. But I have plenty of practice cleaning up messes of all kinds.

inkedone -> RE: Fellow Crafty People (1/23/2015 6:45:33 PM)

Never could get the hang of knitting or crocheting. Kudos to those that can; harder than it looks. Even watch a youtube video over and over only knitted one line and could not make the corner.

The hobbies I enjoy in my spare time are playing the piano, learning how to use pin striping brushes for cars, making pinup clothing, reading, and restoring a 1951 Studabaker wagon. Welding new floor pans in the car has been my nemesis of late.

Sounds like bliss. I annoyingly craft (taken from another thread about Martha Stewart) pretty often if time allows. I plan to dedicate my time more to it when I'm at my home in the islands part time or full time. I started at 11 by crystallizing coal. I don't sell anything I make but I have owned businesses over the years and business is good. I am transitioning from electronics to shoes currently. I transition every few years. Transitions are tough but I use a lot of that time to plan. In business you sort of learn quickly to plan to fail in order not to. I am getting into making bull whips and also collars.

DerangedUnit -> RE: Fellow Crafty People (1/23/2015 7:04:36 PM)

Hmmm I'm going to have to look up crystalline coal... sounds interesting

TNDommeK -> RE: Fellow Crafty People (1/23/2015 7:10:18 PM)

I play WoW, I stay on FB (which I shouldnt do), I do organize drives for the local animal shelter. I think thats about it. This spring, I AM GOING TO do a small small garden.

~FR~

I write.

I design ecards.

I sew (and teach sewing and fashion design).

I draw and sketch, and would do intaglio printmaking if I had access to a press. I love to cook.

Alright this has been driving me out of my mind, (didn't take long) but what does that ~ FR ~ mean?

It means Fast Reply. I made my own canes for awhile, called Serpent's Bite. I am the photographer for the Fall Harvest Car Show, I knit (just made something for a sweet friend on here) because it keeps my fingers dexterous.

I LOVE ecards. I make it a habit to send to people, if I haven't spoken to someone in a while, it's always a pleasant surprise to let them know they are remembered. Especially for those who typically are gift givers than receivers. I wish I stuck to sewing, I did 3 years of sewing and home economics class at nun school having a 90 year old nun reminding me "a good housewife wastes nothing" and I'd wonder "how the hell does she know?!" One day I (strong) MIGHT write an autobiography. It will probably be my only book though.
FR is "fast reply" meaning not to anyone in particular. Also DerangedUnit, crystallizing coal is pretty easy. I found a guide here. How to Crystallize Coal. I always found it funny my neighbors were more than willing to give me ammonia when I inquired without first clearing it with my father.

DerangedUnit -> RE: Fellow Crafty People (1/23/2015 8:01:38 PM)

Thanks I'll try to find it, always need new things to try out... I just showed some of my cousins how to make rock candy last week hopefully they have better patience than me

Douh there was a link again... why does my browser not show links next to text anymore(rhetorical)...

ShaharThorne -> RE: Fellow Crafty People (1/23/2015 11:16:30 PM)

Crochet, read, Runescape, cook and go to anime cons with my daughter when I go see her.
