How would you characterize or define "humiliation"?

Humiliation can come in many flavors. It can be range from one on one stuff that no one else is privy to all the way up the scale to doing something in public. It can be a humbling force intended for that purpose, or one meant as punishment and possibly both at the same time. But I'm still new to all of this so others can probably give you a more distinct picture.

The key to humiliation though is shame. If the target is shameless then the effect is going to be different from someone who embarrasses easily.

How you characterize it or define it is more important.

It can take all shapes and sizes and varying degrees of severity or subtlety. The mechanism will depend greatly on the individual simply because everyone is different. There is no way to answer your question accurately.

Anything from erotic embarrassment to degradation. Depends on the person it's being done to and how they feel about it, as well as your attitude towards them.

Humiliation for me is being put in a position I'm not comfortable being in, being out of my comfort zone, something that makes me feel extremely vulnerable either physically, emotionally or both which is very arousing to me. It could be something he makes me do, it could be something he says to me, it could be something simple or extreme but it never involves degradation.

Unlike Usememistress775, shame is not a part of humiliation to us, he would not want me to feel shame. Feeling shame would not bring on the positive reaction he wants, it would work in the opposite way and make me shut right down.

I'm not saying that shaming is a part of the humiliation that is used for erotic purposes, but that whoever is being humiliated has to be capable of shame. I have known a few people who were shameless for all intents and purposes. All humiliation had no effect on them.
