Have a walk down your town's main street. Take a look at some of these 18 million. Where is this slave labor they're using?

You're desperately trying to make the abuses of some, granted, all too common, equal the norm, and it simply isn't.

Many, many, many hard working business folk serving the public. In fact, most of them. Open your eyes.

Maybe your heart too.

I think in the discussion of that subject, there should be acute distinctions made. Small main street businesses, the grey area of what might be medium businesses (cuz the Mitt Romneys aren't necessarily good for America) and the stock holding corporations.

I think the relative goods and bads and flaws are different in each case. And with differing ratios of that as well.

a pertinent quote from ayn rand: “The moral justification of capitalism does not lie in the altruist claim that it represents the best way to achieve ‘the common good.’ It is true that capitalism does—if that catch-phrase has any meaning—but this is merely a secondary consequence. The moral justification of capitalism lies in the fact that it is the only system consonant with man’s rational nature, that it protects man’s survival qua man, and that its ruling principle is: justice.

Bollocks. It isn't consonant with 'man's rational nature', it's consonant only with man's greed. And it has fuck all to do with justice.

God, Ayn Rand was fruitcake, Bounty. Word to the wise: don't quote her in support of your view, it will only double the number of people who slap their hands to their foreheads at what you write. Rand's arguments have precious little purchase amongst any other than looney-righties even in the USA, from what I've seen; never mind here in Europe, where her writings never come up in any academic course, anywhere, ever. Rand was a deranged headbanger, Bounty. Don't quote her again if you want to be taken seriously.

I love it... [:D]

Quoting Rand to leftist useful idiots, is comparable to showing a cross to vampires in those old movies...

Pfft. The rich, selfish and terminally greedy only survive because of their useful-idiot supporters at the bottom of society who buy into any and every thesis centring on a scapegoat minority as 'society's great enemy' that their masters label as such, as is their whim (blacks, Jews, the disabled, Muslims - pick whichever according to the decade). Those richies need the warm and muscular tongues of their righty-swamp-dweller supporters inserted firmly and loyally into their anuses for eternity, Sanity.

FR,

Thank you, thank you very much. Well done!

MrRodgers -> RE: capitalism in America is deeply flawed (2/1/2015 5:26:49 PM)

In the Ayn Rand world there are no truths not discovered but in an exchange of wealth, in the pursuit of a profit. The search for or the attainment of justice, is nowhere to be found.

To declare property (money) protected speech is to constitutionally affirm...the authoritative institutionalization of capital.

"Do as I say for as little as I say...or you are fired and your resulting poverty, hunger and homelessness will be your fault and if prolonged, is...because you are lazy." [me]

The slaves of which so many speak, are not here. The slaves are those living and working in oppressed nations against which the western labor must now continually compete.

That's how cotton become king in the US.
