What do you see Skype as being?

I've run across, occasionally, phrases in profiles that they "don't do skype". Obviously they don't view use of that program the same as I do.

To me, Skype is the oldest and most reliable working VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) program. At least it was before Microsoft bought it out. I even maintain a Skype in phone number as a business number for my small side business in photography and videography. And, for my main business calls I have unlimited calling in North America (yes, including Canada & Mexico) for about $40 a year. (Up your Vonage... grin)

So, if someone says "Skype" to you; what pops to mind?

Just being curious....

To me it means that all too quickly a random guy is going to try and cajole me into being naked for him.

GoddessManko -> RE: Perceptions of Skype.... (1/30/2015 1:43:32 PM)

I have hundreds of contacts on skype ranging from business contacts to networking executives and my nerd friends who randomly add me to group calls. There is not anything kinky at all with my skype except my current sub for when we are apart. I think skype is a wonderful to break the ice with someone you're about to meet for the first time, especially since only once has a person looked anything like their pics on CS when I met them offline. I find it peculiar when subs claim to be 40 but look over 70 and yet act like nothing is wrong when you see em face to face. Then I hear laments about "fake dommes" and chuckle. They aren't the only ones dishing out well garnished fantasies. [;)]
These kinds of things don't bother me, they are good for a laugh but a good indicator why maybe skyping with someone before moving forward is a good idea. Young people under 35 use technology now more than ever before to date and meet people. Which is why I think though it is well intended, offering munches is not the best idea for them. I'd say yes, meet people, chat it out, skype and then take things offline. Or even fine for doing the LDR thing though it is rare when those go offline and live up to the hype.
ETA; it's interesting how male Doms demand skype, I never get those requests really.More a "finally, a real Domme!" sort of deal because I am a negative Nancy about camming for strangers in my profile first and foremost. But sure the advances are testosterone driven. If you get to the stage of handing out your numero, face time and skype shouldn't be a biggie.

I have found on sites such as this one and a few dating sites, a number of people use programs such as skype to get women to do a live little naked time for them.. I think of all the times that I went onto things like skype, only twice did the person not try to convince me to get naked for them...

Perfectly summed up. And yes, I am one of the people with a no skype/yahoo sentence in my profile. Most of the guys asking me for my Skyoe/Yahoo don't even bother to read profiles, so I still get Skype requests weekly.

To me it means a way of having a face to face convo without actually going to meet. Saves time and energy if there's no click. Also great for f2f with friends and family who live far away. I know it's not the same as actual face to face but it can be helpful.

A really good deal. I can Skype my clients around the world for free, and call unlimited in the US and Canada for $30 something a year. And it's easy to record calls when necessary.

Google Hangouts and Firefox calls may change that one day, but for now, it's hard to beat.

I like skype, I've been using it for over a decade, used to use it when I was a poor college student just to call home. Still use it to keep in touch with friends in Australia.

I've never done phone sex on it though which I assume is where it's getting the negative reputation, random guys demanding that girls get nekkid.

Lucylastic -> RE: Perceptions of Skype.... (1/30/2015 5:40:53 PM)

I dont use it for bdsm reasons, altho I do use it with my pet, but family, friends, business contacts, customers, docs, its my home phone basically with vid for face to face with close people.
I use it more than I use my real phone. Saves on the bills
I have the app on all my tech stuff.
Ive used it since it came out

Kaliko -> RE: Perceptions of Skype.... (1/30/2015 5:46:08 PM)

I think it's wonderful. Skype is what gets me through the long times between visits. I use it only for that purpose, though I would love to chat more with my family who are far away. No one in my family is into it, though.

You don't have a live in situation?

Even when people do, some people have events, seminars, investor meeting etc they need to attend for their professional lives.

No, not right now. But it's not for much longer. It's more bearable now that I actually have a countdown of days until the time when Skype will just be a memory. (And I do have a countdown. On the wall at my office. I like to watch people roll their eyes at my giddiness every morning when I bring the number down one more day.) :)

needlesandpins -> RE: Perceptions of Skype.... (2/2/2015 2:59:54 AM)

I hated it. I used to have msn messenger which was far better, and far more user friendly. I only had my ex playmate in it, but we, or rather I, couldn't use it as msn had been used. I now suspect that he was using it perfectly well.

I had skype on my old computer but haven't put it on new computer yet. Had gotten it back when was in the process of getting slaves that all lived together...weird story...but interestingly I have NEVER used the video chat feature, mostly text and sometimes voice. Partly because I sometimes did hypnosis (and hypno domination) and they felt voice would work better than text. Used to use yahoo video chat a few times but only with people I had known for a while. I have a no video policy until we get to know each other better whether its skype or something else. It goes text, then voice, then video, and so on.

I have an inkling of how you feel, my girls residence is moving around New England for the rest of the year for school reasons so while we still see a lot of each other after years of living together it does rightly suck. So I'm glad to hear that you've got things getting better to look forward to.

~sniff are not I a close friend to chat via Skype????~ lol

I've used skype for many years now and also find it is more stable doing voip than yahoo chat or other voice chat programs. For me it is used to stay in contact with a few friends and we have the option to do type chat, voice with or without video. I love it for voice as it bypasses long distance charges on a phone bill.

GoddessManko -> RE: Perceptions of Skype.... (2/2/2015 4:29:16 PM)

Some of you guys are really sweet the way you maintain friendships on here. Quick update about skype that I don't know if you guys are aware of and you might think I'm a bit corny for saying it but here goes;
You can record messages for loved ones or friends far away if you don't get a chance to videocall with them or think it might be awkward and not sure what to say. I really love this on the new updated Skype. When I see someone I haven't seen in a long time on video, it's surprising what an emotional response I'll have at times just seeing their face, mannerisms and hearing their voice. Give it a shot if you haven't used it before and don't have a live in situation (as of yet). It REALLY reinforces your feelings for loved ones far away, almost like a greeting card in the form of a vlog, can be just hello or kinky if that tickles your fancy. It can be pretty heartwarming. (End of my cornball moment).
I would love to hear more about how people get through their LDR situation and what the end game plan is or if there is one at all. I'm still not sure if I move him here, I move there or we meet at my house in the islands and live the beachy island life.

How is that even a question? :)
