NorthernGent -> Television (1/31/2015 9:17:08 AM)

Things seem to have improved markedly.

Anyone watching Wolf Hall, Fortitude or Broadchurch?

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: Television (1/31/2015 9:22:55 AM)

The OH watched a bit of Wolf Hall.

Comment: Atrocious. Unwatchable. Bad continuity, Shit acting. Bad storyline.
Conclusion: Pure unadulterated crap.

We'd have to agree to disagree there.

You could definitely show that it's historically inaccurate and anti-catholic. Thomas Cromwell has been elevated to caring family man, when there is no evidence to suggest this; while Thomas More has been relegated to the position of unbridled political schemer, when in fact there is evidence to suggest that More was very good with his family and evidence to ascertain Cromwell's ruthless Machiavellian tendencies.

Leaving aside the historical inaccuracies, however, the acting and plot is spot on; a slow burner all the same.

I watched the first series of Broad Church, and thought it was great. I watched the first one of this series too, and then promptly forgot that it was on. I may wait until it's all done, and on catch up so I can watch it all at once.

You'll have seen Joe Miller plead not guilty then?

needlesandpins -> RE: Television (1/31/2015 12:32:26 PM)

I did, and the dodgy Vicar, who I thought was dodgy in the first series.

generally though, I still don't think that the over all freeview tv, which is all I have, is that brilliant. I certainly don't think it's got any better. I'm still as sick of the same thing repeated 101 times as I ever was.

The whole village is dodgy! Thought the motive for Joe was weak and had Tom down as the killer, and think it will turn out to be him.

Some good programmes on at the moment, I think.

A couple of Jo Nesbo films.

1st episode of Fortitude last night sets it up nicely, did you watch it?

needlesandpins -> RE: Television (1/31/2015 1:15:46 PM)

no, may be another catch up thing.

Certainly worth a watch if you have a couple of hours spare on a Friday night.

Good cast and good plot so far. Set in Northern Norway (the scenery is spectacular), but largely an English cast with the odd Dane, Norwegian and American.

cheers :-)

Hmmm...I'm very much into Game of Thrones, looking forward to it this year. I do want to watch the last season of Walking Dead, it's more my sister's show but watched enough of it I'm curious. I also enjoyed True Detective, Matthew McConaughy really transformed into the role and funny enough was told (and agree) his main character is a lot like me minus the bad habits. Breaking Bad lived up to the hype and worth checking out on Netflix if you haven't. I'll check out the synopsis of those shows and see if they're my type of show. I'm odd in that I'm not into the typical "Big Bang Theory" and "How I Met Your Mother" stuff like most people I know.

No bother.

I always suspected Henry VIII was an Islamic terrorist that occasionally worked for the CIA (in his spare time).

RockaRolla -> RE: Television (1/31/2015 3:53:31 PM)

Also a fan of Game of Thrones, and looking forward to the new season.

Excited as hell that Foundation will be adapted to an HBO series.

Other than that, not a lot of TV watching. I tend to get attached to a few exceptional (to me) shows and the rest of TV can go to hell.

FR

Just started with Orange is the New Black - fun, so far.

Not so sure working for the CIA would have afforded him the opportunity to lop people's heads off at will, but he certainly got through more than his fair share of virgins.

I think Damien Lewis plays the part well: unhinged, immoral and childish.

Lucylastic -> RE: Television (2/1/2015 11:45:59 AM)

I only watched Broadchurch because of David Tennant, Im saving the second season to binge watch. Because I was impressed with the whole season.
The one set in the US (Gracepoint) will be the same deal.

Wolf hall I took a loook at the first episode and found it slow, however I will be going back for more, someday soon
The period is my favourite, the historical exactitude is bad but then so is my real guilty pleasure "Reign" (the early life of Mary Queen of Scots living in the french court and becoming queen of france.

The only comedy shows I watch now are TBBT and Archer.
OITNB kept my interest for a while, i have it in my netflix list to pick up again
Walking Dead and Game of thrones Im SOOO looking forward to
and Hannibal needs to come back yesterday

MercTech -> RE: Television (2/1/2015 6:21:31 PM)

And if you watch both "Broadchurch" and "Gracepoint" you see the differences in U.S. production standards and British production standards. At least they did it decently and not the hollywoodization that was done to "Being Human".

Lucylastic -> RE: Television (2/1/2015 6:27:59 PM)

being human US was horrendous, couldnt watch it.
There are lots of US programs I enjoy, but give me a brit thriller/murder/history/ actually anything on tv.
YOu can take the girl out of england but you cant take the england out of the girl ( I use that term with a disclaimer)
