inkedone -> Culture buzz about being Primal (2/5/2015 6:40:53 AM)

Recently I was listening to a podcast by Micheal Maiki entitled "Caring for Your Primal". Normal labels within the community conjure pet as a label or pet play or is it more of an oddity within the bdsm world? Primal in the podcast was defined as someone that identifies more with their animal than human side over looking societies boundaries. Curious to see others thoughts on this subject.

I don't think it's an oddity, at least I see a lot more of the gear than I used to.

Check out the link Tyrant posted.

He is far more attuned to the primal than I am, but I think I can say that it is not about connecting with animals themselves - as in pet play - it is about connecting with the primal, animal urges at the core of ourselves. Those urges that do not defer to the influence of society, propriety, or culture... Raw, primal human urges.

That is my understanding anyway.

I really hate it when people post links like that.
Those links only work if you are already a member of Fet.

Thanks ET for the link will have to check that out. Agreed more in the realm of tapping into the more basic primal instinct raw urges rather than just being as being an animal in play per say. Thoughts after thinking about this a bit were for example if your primal nature was that of a Dominant such as a lion would it be more common to have poly tendencies than a female sub feline or even expansion to that thought process a switch.

Also keep in mind that for many who identify as Primal, our thought processes are less focused on the role designations of dominant/submissive but more in the realm of predator/prey. And of course, it must be said that the term "predator" is not a reference to the negative aspects that so many have over the term. Obviously the dom/sub aspects do play a part in regards to kink yet it tapping into that ability to use the animalistic nature we have and incorporate it into BDSM. I see it as a form of D/s but differences.

Primal is getting out of your head... all the stuff that has been hammered in there. Think of it as an orgasmic or tantric moment; you are married to the visceral sensation, how the energy of him/her moves through you, the ebb and flow of it, non-analytical, no "ooh that feels good" but complete surrender to the moment, the feeling, the sensation.

When you begin to explore Primal, you begin from a point of Dominance or submission, but over time, once trust and awareness is established, the Dominant becomes the Predator, taking what he/she wants and needs, and the submissive becomes prey. Not the helpless weak victim, but the object of that Predators desire. Eventually you will succumb to the Predators will, but delicious prey never surrenders, they merely succumb once overwhelmed by the Dominance the Predator is exuding. Prey can heighten the exhilaration through resistance, the Predator wants to earn his/her prize. We are hunters, not scavengers. We do not feed our inner beast with carrion, we want fresh meat from a thrilling hunt.

"Primal" is/can be diluted through a lot of fantasy ideals... you'll see a lot of "FluffyDragonUnicornKitten" D's and s's that are grabbing a label and using it wrong. When you truly explore Primal you have to peel away the layers of civility and get to the "Animal" or "Lizard Brain" side of yourself, the Man/Woman of action and not calculation. Over time you may explore deeper connections to your Primal self and once you transcend that "civil" conscious, you may begin to feel kinship to a particular animal or animals. We are not very far removed from animals, after all. We like to think we are, we like to think we are the top of the food chain, but we get powerful doses of reality from time to time.

I couldn't say specifically that the Totem Primal Animal reflects relationship dynamics/proclivities, for me, My connection is with the wolf, the wolf mates for life, I want nothing more than to mate with My girl for life, and the girl that she chooses as well. That said, the monogamous ideal of the wolf does not reflect in me, but the need to mate for the rest of my life certainly does.

Hoped this helped ;)

Thanks for the heads up I'd never heard of that before.

Primal has been in the profile options at FetLife for quite a while. Most pet play does not include the primal spectrum. Pet play is usually performance/reward or nurture/caretaker type of stuff. Primal is weeding out civilized filters on your passions and letting your base instincts come out, your inner barbarian, your inner beast. From simple love making unencumbered by modern social formalities to take downs, rape and etc. To truly shed your civil formalities, it takes you to a place that requires a different set of rules, a different perspective and focus.

A few months ago ExiledTyrant posted https://fetlife.com/groups/109315/group_posts/6311159 about "Purging Civility" and "Purifying the Primal". It's a nice read.

I really appreciate the insightful piece by Exiled Tyrant it gave a much more in depth look than the podcast generalizations. At first I associated the thought of primal with that of the furry community thus a spin on pet play, but after getting the concept of predator vs. prey can see the association with the lifestyle rather than something else.
Predator vs. prey and giving up the convention of society lends to natural tendencies or the raw essence of self. Pure it is most true state. This is more of not just living like an animal, but being aligned with the most inner core or primal self.

Thank you ET and ResidenSadist for your insight on the subject. Great food for thought.
