You are more generous than I
I could run down a list that I consider "trollish" but that's against TOS(some of them haven't appeared here, and mentioning posters not involved in the thread leads to gold bordered letters)

To answer Mikes original question. I think this would play very well in the next presidential election. Love him or hate him, Scott Walker does what he says he will do. He would bring some fiscal sanity to the federal budget.

slvemike4u -> RE: Gov.Walker:This should play well in the general (2/12/2015 4:45:44 PM)

So folks will vote for him, even if they strenuously disagree with him, solely because they will hold the belief that they know what they are getting ?

Really ,that's what you're going with ?

I ain't seen you around here in forever....and this is what you offer ?

servantforuse -> RE: Gov.Walker:This should play well in the general (2/12/2015 4:58:14 PM)

You think they will disagree with him. I think just the opposite would happen. Wisconsin is a blue/purple state. He just won 3 governor races, one as we all know was a failed recall election. Scott Walker vs the old hag Hillary. Might be interesting.

Hillarys baggage will make for some great commercials (time to try to limit free speech again)

From the OP (the very first sentence of it in fact):
"Gov.Walker submitted his biennial budget plan wherein he proposes to cut the University of Wisconsin's state support by 13%"

I have kindly bolded the relevant bit for you as you seemed to have missed it.

Let me refresh your memory.

These short-sighted measures...

And what are these "short-sighted measures," precisely?

Parse that in English. What is being cut, exactly? Do you really think there is nothing in the higher education budget that could be trimmed without reducing the university to a "trade school"? Are there no courses that could be dropped without a tragic impact on higher education? How about the chancellor's $495,000 salary? The higher education budget is not sacred, and rantings to the contrary from the faith's priests and priestesses are irrelevant. So lose the robes, stop hissing and spitting about "choking funds" and "ideologically driven nonsense," and get down to actual cases.

Otherwise, all you've got is a circus act.

K.

Any cuts will eventually be passed down to the students who will attend it in the future.
This will disproportionately affect low income and middle class students, the 1% don't care,
You know that,it is a staple of the free market society.
Money is never actually lost, its just recouped from another direction.

servantforuse -> RE: Gov.Walker:This should play well in the general (2/12/2015 6:29:00 PM)

The University of Wisconsin system has an annual operating budget of 5.6 Billion dollars. There are 13 two year universities and 13 four year universities. Do you really think that nothing can be cut from a budget like that ?

slvemike4u -> RE: Gov.Walker:This should play well in the general (2/12/2015 6:34:22 PM)

I thought I answered that,of course there are cuts available in a budget that size.
But,once again, the cuts will be passed on......and by the way 13% is draconian.
It's more % wise than the sequestration cuts imposed on the military...to great outcry from the conservatives around here.

The legitimacy of the position that you and tweak are staking out rests on every dollar currently committed to higher education being well-spent, because to the extent that any of the committed funds are not being well spent, are being wasted or ill-used, it benefits everyone to force the necessary corrections.

Are you prepared to argue that every dollar in the current higher education budget is being well spent?

servantforuse -> RE: Gov.Walker:This should play well in the general (2/12/2015 6:36:57 PM)

Cuts will not be passed down. The Walker administration froze tuition at the U of W for the last 2 years .

Are you prepared to argue that the same administration that sought the deletions to the mission statement are to be trusted with what qualifies as well spent and miss spent.
cause I'm not [8|]

So the money is recouped afterwards...it is taking a step backwards in public support for higher education...and I vehemently disagree with that.

FR and a lock for a breather

I'm noticing something that seems a little odd for me, when we are talking about adults on an adult web site, expressing how they feel about something. Do we really need to gang up and agree with one another like jr. high school students?

That looks a little like harassment to me and not the purpose of the Feisty sections.

If your comments cannot stand on their own and you need the agreement of another and go back and forth as if you have joined a club to gang up on others, then I think this shows a failure I must consider over-all.

When I have to come in and start watching for bullies, I shall start educating the bullies. Stand on your own. If you need someone agreeing with you, you might consider you won't be agreeing with me either when I hit those extra buttons I have. Seriously, I do not like threats. Stop making me make them.

Enough.

Well, I don't know what exactly they have in mind. Neither do you. You're arguing what you have in mind as the meaning of them seeking the changes, but the only basis for discussing the question rests with what would be affected by the cuts, and I can't seem to get you to go there, probably because you don't know, and I don't know either or I wouldn't be asking you. So where does that leave things?

Nothing to see here, folks.

K.

slvemike4u -> RE: Gov.Walker:This should play well in the general (2/12/2015 8:28:14 PM)

So you gleaned nothing of the goals from what he sought to delete from the mission statement.
You are rather dense, aren't you ?

With all due respect, please let the bullies continue to pile on. As is good for all bullies they're getting their asses handed to them with a cherry on top and it's quite entertaining[8D]

While you continue obtusely .
Asking me why I feel that an attempt to degrade the mission statement seems to be counter intuitive to the the mission of educating university students is a non starter Kirata
Pounding your hand on the table and demanding specifics is not going to garner a response, above and beyond I objected to what I read in the op ed I linked to.
If you have SPECIFIC reasons you think I am mistaken, fine let's hear them...and be more specific than a certainty that there is fat to trim.
Tell me specifically what specific spending you find objectionable.
Please tell me specifically where you see 13% of waste that you would put a stop to.
See how that works.....you don't have that information, you can't break down the budget of the University of Wisconsin and detail the waste.
I don't feel Walker can either and that is why I specifically object to his actions.
