I boast and whine and call them thin
the songs of a troubadour
the cheese that melts on naked pins
masks her welts and open sores

a cardinal hat might well have said
the jesus boys are gone and dead
but heaven reeks of fresh cut grass
like early autumn's leaves of trash

do what's right to kill a wrong
sing and douse a happy song
a dish that serves will feed the lot
a pantry full of empty pots
