and some articles on media bias (both the broad and narrow definition): Liberal media bias: what the studies and surveys tell us "Of the 20 major media outlets studied, 18 scored left of center, with CBS’ “Evening News,” The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times ranking second, third and fourth most liberal behind the news pages of The Wall Street Journal. "Only Fox News’ “Special Report With Brit Hume” and The Washington Times scored right of the average U.S. voter... "The programming studied on Fox News offered a somewhat more positive picture… "Senior executives, on-air personalities, producers, reporters, editors, writers and other self-identifying employees of ABC, CBS and NBC contributed more than $1 million to Democratic candidates and campaign committees in 2008, according to an analysis by The Examiner of data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics. "The Democratic total of $1,020,816 was given by 1,160 employees of the three major broadcast television networks... "By contrast, only 193 of the employees contributed to Republican candidates and campaign committees, for a total of $142,863.... "President Obama received 710 such contributions worth a total of $461,898, for an average contribution of $651 from the network employees. Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain received only 39 contributions totaling $26,926, for an average donation of $709." "MSNBC.com identified 143 journalists who made political contributions from 2004 through the start of the 2008 campaign, according to the public records of the Federal Election Commission. Most of the newsroom checkbooks leaned to the left: 125 journalists gave to Democrats and liberal causes. Only 16 gave to Republicans." https://winteryknight.wordpress.com/2012/08/16/liberal-media-bias-what-the-studies-and-surveys-tell-us/ RESEARCH ON MEDIA BIAS "The leftwing bias of the American mass media is pervasive and quantifiable. Since the 1980s, studies have consistently shown that the professionals who constitute America’s mainstream news media – reporters, editors, anchors, publishers, correspondents, bureau chiefs, and executives at the nation’s major newspapers, magazines, and broadcast networks – are preponderantly left-oriented and Democrat... "Bias in the news media manifests itself most powerfully not in the form of outright, intentional lies, but is most often a function of what reporters choose not to tell their audience; i.e., the facts they purposely omit so as to avoid contradicting the political narrative they wish to advance. As media researchers Tim Groseclose and Jeffrey Milyo put it: “[F]or every sin of commission…we believe that there are hundreds, and maybe thousands, of sins of omission – cases where a journalist chose facts or stories that only one side of the political spectrum is likely to mention....”
http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=207 of course Harvard, UCLA, the University of Indiana, the Pew Research Center, and others are all just as bad as Glenn Beck. so the fun going forward is going to be watching for this sort of thing... one thing I am glad of is I believe the republican national committee is going to be taking a little bit more control of the presidential debates in terms of what networks they are on, and who gets to moderate them.
