Status: offline 		For a while I've considered selling my house and getting out of the city where I live. The big question is where to?
I've always thought it is best to go TO something then simply getting away from something. In this case the getting away from is a crowded city with failing infrastructure.

The big questions is where to.

If you could move anywhere you wanted; where would it be and why?

I used to want to move to Colorado (Grand Junction, not too much snow) but, now that they're smoking weed, everywhere, out there. I've decided that isn't the place for me (probably).

That leaves me with a few possibilities but for now, I just (yesterday 12 FEB) put in a bid on a house in the Hanover section of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsyltucky. I will probably be here for another 5 years or so.

After that, it's Georgia, Abalama, or Arizona, here I come (in that order and I know I mis-spelled the second state. It was intentional).

If you want a support job....Seattle.

Oil...not Seattle.

I have family in Seattle. I've never wanted to live in the Pac-No. West, anyway.

I need to be somewhere where humidity is almost non-existent (hence; Grand Junction and Arizona).

Now, some would say: "Michael Abalama and Georgia are far from low humidity kinds of places". I agree but having lived in one place and spent a good portion of time in the other, I think that might be the area with the greatest ratio of truly nice people in this entire country.

Having lived in MO, IL, CA, TX, MD, and Alabama I an inclined to agree, depending on what part of TX you are talking about.

Status: offline 		I lived in a decent sized city about 10 years back, probably small by US standards - 1 million people or so.

Loved the opportunities, architecture, museums, night life etc, and didn't mind that it was crowded; but what really pissed me off was the rubbish lying around.

Having to step over beer bottles and pizza boxes to get into the front door of my flat wasn't appealing.

But I enjoyed what the city had to offer, and it was a great city with a great history, but I grew up a country lad near the coast and it was only a matter of time before I was pulled back to my roots.

Where would I go? Coast or countryside. There is nothing like enjoying nature.

Status: offline 		Florida. No snow ever again. But I really don't want to move away from our kids, who are mostly in the Northeast. One's in the Midwest but he's talking about looking for a job in North Carolina.

Status: offline 		avoid florida like the plague it is. the pay (if you can find a job at all) is substandard, cost of living excruciating, every business is a scam, every experience and event over priced, and under delivered. the people are aggressive, nasty, oblivious to anyone else around tem, and none of the rules of civilization apply to them. also transient as all hell, good luck making any lasting connections with anyone. the landscaping is beautiful, i hope you like it because everything is built on, and landscaped. you will be driving for awhile if you are looking for any natural beauty you wont be charged a ridiculous price to get within 2 miles of. everyone here is from somewhere else, and miserable dying to leave. coming to this vile cesspool of a state was the worst mistake i didnt know i was making. i mean, the weather was so nice....

Status: offline 		I could probably go on for several pages extolling the positive aspects of Idaho, but over the last 30 years we've had way too many out-of-staters move here, so I won't**. Yep, there are negative aspects as well, but they are pretty much overshadowed by the positive.

**In about 1993 I did an informal survey of fellow workers where I was employed, and more than 60% had moved here from somewhere else. It's gotten worse since then.

Ditto for the SF Bay Area.

In the spirit of full disclosure there's a slight issue with cost of living in both areas of our fair state though.

Status: offline 		I will never regret moving to Austin TX! And even if I start to travel again, this will be home.

It is a fun city that feels small despite being the state capital (that looks wrong but I'm leaving it lol) it has a liberal vibe, art, music, food, green space etc. a thriving city. I seriously love it here....even in August since I'm slowly acclimating to.

If I had piles of money (now taking donations btw) I'd probably spend summers in Europe.

Austin is fabulous!

And I'm on my iPad so please overlook choppy sentences, I'm slow on this thing.

Best get a move on with your wandering,cause more and more states are legalizing the evil weed .
Pretty soon you'll be awfully restricted should you hold on to that bias.

I thought Louisiana was stunning off the beaten track. A different type of landscape to what we get over here, but charming in its own right.

Also thought Nashville was a fine city. Back in the days when I liked city living, I'd have enjoyed living in Nashville. Not too big, plenty going on, friendly people, didn't seem too crowded to me; except at night when it was chocker in the middle of the city. Weekends the pubs were stowed off and a bit of a battle to get a beer and a seat, but maybe that was because we were right in the middle of the place and at bars the natives tended to want to frequent. All in all, thought it a decent enough place to be.
