The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and her Lover is quite an out there film. I love how it's shot, and the macabre twist at the end [:D]

Colossus: The Forbin Project was a great cautionary tale. Like many movies; the book was much better. Rather the antithesis of Asimov's picture of artificial intelligence. The concept that computers have to be huge monolithic installations rather dates it but still a good story.

One of my favorite feel good movies is "Wizard of Speed and Time"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081766/

Another I've watched over and over that is a bit obscure is "Night Breed"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100260/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

My favorite Robin Hood version is the Michael Praed portrayal of the early 1980s. "Robin of Sherwood"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086791/?ref_=nv_sr_6 (I checked, available on DVD via Netflix)

I always enjoyed Dumas' Musketeers books. My favorite movie portrayal is from the early 1970s.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072281/?ref_=nv_sr_3

The old Hammer films are always entertaining. Even the Hammer films that were so hokey they were hilarious. One of my favorites from that production house featured Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Tor Johnson (1950 wrestler trying to act), and a badly acting 19 year old Jack Nicholson. "The Raven" from 1963
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057449/?ref_=nv_sr_2

One movie that is actually a remake from one in 1942 is "Cat People" from 1982. If you know anyone that has a fursona; watch this one with them and I'll bet you see a bit of a "squee" moment.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083722/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Of course, I have an eclectic and odd taste in music and cinema. If you recognize the line, "They shot Fritz" you get the picture.

though I don't know if these qualify as "obscure"---ive been able to find episodes of the whacky racers and space ghost online, but not so much speed racer, kimba the white lion, George of the jungle, and underdog.

I remember seeing "Kimba" as part of the Banana Splits....maybe that's why you can't find it....maybe you have to get the Banana Splits shows....?

I just remember 2 other shows I used to watch as a kid.....and I can't believe I used to watch them because these days I HATE anime.

The Space Giants (go Goldar!) and Ultraman!!

Maybe I just watched them because my brother forced me to.....lol

And another movie that's creepy and has a bit of kink in it is "The Nightcomers" with Marlon Brando. As totally fascinated and fixated as I was by the bondage scenes in it, I was about 12 when I first saw it and it really freaked me out.

I'd really love to see Eleanor and Franklin again, but Amazon Prime doesn't have it.

Oh I loved Kimba the White Lion when I was little! Even though it would usually make me cry lol, and I've tried for years to find episodes. I've found clips but nothing more than that. The Friendly Giant was another one.

I think, if my quick peeking was correct, you can get all the episodes in a box set on amazon...

I've had a few more pop into my head.

"Daktari" - television series

"The Gum Ball Rally"

"Logan's Run" - Farrah Fawcett Majors, at the height of her popularity

"The Quiet Man" - The Duke and Maureen O'Hara (although, that should be on TV sometime soon with St. Patrick's Day around the corner)

Daktari.....

I always wanted it to be more like the John Wayne movie "Hatari".

ResidentSadist -> RE: Is there an obscure show or movie you'd like to see again? (2/15/2015 10:02:51 PM)

The list is too long . . . I would end up spamming the thread with a wall of text. Lets go with 3, a humorous sci fi and some martial arts theater from the 70s. BTW, the entire Lone Wolf and Cub series as well as the Hanzo the Razor series were great.

I will never forget a scene from the first Lone Wolf and Cub. Ogami Itto (Lone Wolf) was the official Shogunate executioner but got framed for disloyalty. He came back home to find his clan and family dead, and that he was framed for it. His baby had survived the massacre. With loss of face, life ahead was bleak. He set his infant on the floor between a ball and a katana. He tells his infant to choose between going to be with mommy (death) or leading the life of a ronin with him . . . with sword drawn ready to strike, we watch the baby eventually crawl to the katana, to be swooped up by the emotional father. Now that is good martial arts drama!!! So Ogami Itto built a a baby cart fit for James Bond with armor, hidden weapons and projectile weapons. He makes the cart an extension of his craft... and from the back of the cart flies a banner advertizing his services as ronin. And so the 6 movie series begins.

I like Hanzo the Razor just because it is a hoot. He trains his cock, beating it with stick and jabbing into into rice to toughen it. He uses it to interrogate female suspects... at one point he has the girl suspended in a net, spinning her and lifting her up and down on his cock. Combine this with decent Japanese drama plots, a house full of insane booby traps and all the typical martial arts trappings you would expect and you get a slightly different and entertaining movie. Good enough to spawn a series of 3 movies. I choose the first one.

Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart to Hades (1972)
In the third film of the Lone Wolf and Cub series, Ogami Itto volunteers to be tortured by Yakuza to save a prostitute and is hired by their leader to kill an evil chamberlain... Tomisaburo Wakayama

Hanzo the Razor: Sword of Justice (1972)
Hanzo is an incorruptible and unorthodox officer in Edo, as famous for his self-discipline and his love shaft as his sword. Against the backdrop of his magistrate's occasional rounding up ... Shintaro Katsu

A Boy and His Dog (1975)
A post-apocalyptic tale based on a novella by Harlan Ellison. A boy communicates telepathically with his dog as they scavenge for food and sex, and they stumble into an underground society ... Don Johnson, Jason Robards

I could be wrong....some childhood memories can be foggy....maybe it played right after the Banana Splits and I was so transfixed by the TV it all just blended together. But it is a place to start. I do remember watching them both when I was in kindergarten. I went to kindergarten in the morning and then went to a babysitter in the afternoon and I distinctly remember watching them both at her house. Funny thing....I think that was also permanently imprinted on my memory because she had a white German shepherd named "Kimba"

bounty44 -> RE: Is there an obscure show or movie you'd like to see again? (2/16/2015 3:03:20 AM)

I think the episodes of kimba would have been too long for the banana splits, remember kimba was a whole show so to speak, like speed racer. kimba pre-dates the splits too by a little bit.

but either way, weren't all those cartoons and kids shows from the 60s and early 70s just wonderful!

MercTech -> RE: Is there an obscure show or movie you'd like to see again? (2/16/2015 4:41:16 PM)

Thanks ResidentSadist. Those movies from the 70s do look good. I'll have to order them on disc from Netflix once I get back home.

Speaking of 7 oriental cinema of yesteryear. "A Chinese Ghost Story" (1987) is well worth watching. A buddy from SoCal tells me that the fellow that did the SFx for Matrix was the apprentice of the guy who choreographed the wonderful wire work in "Chinese Ghost Story". BTW, I found the remake with the same name from 2011 to be a yawner.

I'd like to see "The Ballad of Little Jo". A fictional account of a true story in what was then the Montana Territor(ies?)y.

Is that a western of sorts? if so I think Ive watched that with my dad. I like westerns

"Dinosaurs" Muppet's meet the Honeymooners

"The Critic"

"Space Ghost Coast to Coast" Serious drugs had to have been involved with creation of this show.

Oh, gosh, I had forgotten about that - Dinosaurs! My son loved that show - although I hated how they ended the series. My kids also used to watch Fraggle Rock.
