I have perfected the art/skill of laughing while I am sobbing. Both result in wet stuff and tissue. Bless all your hearts. Thank you for teaching me so very much.

Anyone know where I can get the best deals on soft tissue?

Okay, lets get back on topic than.....what we have here is the result of extremism,of some members of a certain religion who are ,culturally speaking, stuck somewhere a few hundred years ago...culture wise and in the way they think.
Now we all agree that it's time that culture step out of the fourteenth century and join the rest of us here in 2015.
And we should encourage and even prod them towards doing so....but,and I merely ask,do we have our own instance of fealty to a "culture" no longer suitable for modern society ?
Take a moment to think about it before attacking me for having the temerity to suggest it

when it comes to islam being a "religion of the sword" or not, what makes you think they are "stuck in the 14th century" such that they need to join the 21st? do you somehow expect them to interpret their sacred writings in some way other than what they literally say just because its 2015?

Yes I do bounty,I expect the extremists to stop taking the bullshit literal....a new understanding of the their historic texts is needed.
But they ain't alone is my point

I think then that's a part of the fundamental problem between liberals and conservatives just in general. the way we look at the bible, or the constitution are examples of that.

there are a couple of retorts to your position:

one is, their sacred writings are their sacred writings and just because you don't like the results of them, or the outcome of people obeying them, is not enough for followers of those writings to stop taking them literally. putting the infidel to the sword doesn't change because its the 21st change and you don't like being put to the sword. im sorry achmed, we don't like all this killing you are doing, so you really need to re-interpret the plain meaning of the text!

that then gives some insight into the second retort---is it possible that the Koran, and islam, are not worthy of being followed? that is, they are not really of god? that's a deeper question that really needs to be answered but as you might imagine, especially in a place like the forums here, a very difficult one to ask in the first place.

no, the "hard" part would be that its a very deep question with profound meaning and implications, worthy of a tremendous amount of studious and contemplative thought, but that instead it would cause a tremendous amount of anger, knee jerk responses, name calling and finger pointing and it would not receive the fair hearing it deserves so to speak.

I have left a strong message on the three shot thread. Please make sure this gun thread doesn't go the same direction or it will be subject to lock-down and removal. Just like any gun thread at the moment.

I do believe there's other news that can be discussed. It might be a good time for that.

ive not given you any indication from anything ive written here concerning islam that might indicate im clueless as to what they believe, or what they do or such that you could legitimately say I've not given it a "fair hearing."

you also don't know what I know, so you are more or less (with the exception of what ive posted here) in the dark on that matter. for all you know I spent 25 yrs in saudia Arabia and am a converted muslim. for all you know im a phd scholar of eastern religion. for all you know im married to a muslim.

is it possible that someone could have actually studied the situation very carefully over a long period of time and actually made a rational judgment on the matter? or rather is it that in your leftist worldview, since a judgment is made, that in and of itself is evidence of "bias" and must be ridiculed?

is it even possible to have a conversation with you without your taking shots at people?

All of that is assumed bounty...I only post on what I have read from another poster.....and I'm standing behind my post. It's an opinion and it's mine
You're entitled to yours,do with it what you will.I'll use mine to fashion my posts.
It's cool how that works
Now ,maybe you could do us both a favor,we won't upset mod3 any longer....go check out the young comic thread in off topic, you will laugh and have a sunnier disposition(i'm not saying your disposition sucks or anything )

Whether or not you agree with what I post,I can promise you that I arrive at my opinions honestly....thats not to say that they are always "true" but they are my honest beliefs and views .

well I appreciate your saying that, thank you...

I know I try, though no doubt I fail sometimes, to keep things on a pretty intellectual level. its a challenge sometimes to not get personal, or to take things personally.
