Like woolite dark for Darks and woolite regular for lights, and also something is tearing small circular holes in a lot of my clothing, is it more likely to be the washer, or the dryer?

I would assume that moths are responsible for the holes.

It's easy enough to use the same detergent for all, and just add some bleach for the whites.

What kinds of W/Ds are you using? High efficiency, or old school?

These are very tiny holes, all exact same shape, same size. I don't think moths would makes holes that are uniform from item to item, time after time with spans of times between.

It's more likely to be a harsh detergent in combination with a strong wash cycle.

We don't have Woolite here so I can't comment.
But if you are washing delicate or woolen items, use the appropriate settings on your washer instead of a normal wash cycle. That means the 'synthetic' or 'delicates' setting or the wool setting depending on what you're washing.
Also, look at the care label too!
Some materials are not designed to be machine washable or tumble-dried.

And I would never add bleach for whites.
Bleach will eventually destroy some of the more delicate clothes; you need a non-bleach whitener for that.

I just have the average cotton, or cotton spandexy type things, tee shirts, panties, cotton pants, leggings, etc.

This started when my Dad got a new washer. I use what ever off brand he stuff is cheapest and doesn't stink.
