I even read the first one becuase a former slave said it was good. Got halfway through the second one before just giving up.

That was the written version. Has anyone seen the film? Is it as bad? Worse? Slightly better?

Just wondering. Don't go and see it just because I am curious: cause I sure as hell won't. I'd need a lot of people here to say that the movie is much better just to even consider going to see it.

There is sorta a thread about this a few down.

But for what its worth- I hear it is really aggressively bad. Just as a movie. Not even because of its content necessarily. Just everyone's skills aren't great and the writing is poor. But I haven't seen that myself.

Critics Consensus: While creatively better endowed than its print counterpart, Fifty Shades of Grey is a less than satisfying experience on the screen.

It must be monumentally poor? It's setting box office records across the nation. Dumbing down to that many people is exceptional?
And we are seeing the chaff show up on local fet sites already.
For a scathing review: http://www.aimmyarrowshigh.com/post/110802248650
The summary: "This was domestic abuse marketed as Valentine’s Day fun. That’s why I nearly cried. And that’s why I couldn’t write a funny recap.
I’m embarrassed that I ever thought I could."

25% on the tomatometer. I've seen worse reviews - for other films - but that's pretty damned mediocre.

Everyone is rushing to see it out of curiosity. I've read the books, then saw the movie. Books (for me) were good, as a FANTASY NOVEL, but the movie was not. It lacked so much and the chosen actors were mediocre at best.

You may want to look at the link in my post above for a more nuanced and experienced take on consensual power exchange versus domestic emotional violence. I'm hoping you choose the former for your relationships. The list of red flags noted in the movie and books has been posted here by many over the years.
What creates the Willing Suspension of Disbelief enjoying fiction writing varies widely. I'm just concerned that new people would take a story that is really about a true sociopath with some BDSM stage dressing as a relevant life model.

Was this addressed to me? I'm not sure, hehe.....but like I said, I recognize it as fantasy and nothing more. The consensual power exchange in our relationship here at home is just that, very consensual and the epitomy of power exchange. I am very much a realist, and take no stock in this book/series/movie when it comes to reality. Same goes for any other fantasy novel, no matter how well, or how poorly its written.
