Sanity -> Jordan’s King Abdullah for President? (2/19/2015 9:35:20 AM)

Could it be that top Democrats have completely lost touch with reality? They have apparently lost touch with mainstream American voters - even many voters among their base, especially with the Islamic extremism issue. Ive got to note that while these particular articles focus primarily on this current administration, evidence abounds that other top Democrats are just as bad, and hopefully we will be able to have a civil discussion of that aspect of this issue later on in the thread.

Barkley: I Wish Obama Was Like Jordan's King Abdullah In Battling ISIS

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley would like to see President Barack Obama act like Jordan’s King Abdullah II when dealing with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, the TNT analyst was asked who he would like to meet today and he answered with the Jordanian king. When asked why, Barkley said it was the actions he took in response to ISIS burning alive captured Jordanian pilot Muath Al-Kaseasbeh on video.

“Because I think his actions when they burned that kid alive, I thought his actions were heroic. He was like, ‘No, you cannot do that to my people.’ I wish President Obama was like that sometimes. I do. I think that is the way we have to treat ISIS,” Barkley told Sports Illustrated. “We can’t keep thinking it will go away. I thought it was heroic what Abdullah did.”

...Barkley also said in the interview he might be leaning toward voting Republican in the 2016 presidential election.

“I am paying close attention to the political situation. I have always voted Democratic. But I like some of the Republicans this time around,” Barkley told Sports Illustrated. “I like Chris Christie. I like Jeb Bush. I like those guys.”

Barkley then laughed when asked what he thought about Hillary Clinton.

“Well, I just told you I was thinking about voting Republican,” Barkley said laughing.

Swing-state poll: Voters want change

Voters in three key swing states that went for President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 say they want the next president’s policies to be different from those of the current administration, according to new polls by Quinnipiac University.

Asked whether they would like to see the next White House occupant continue with Obama’s policies or go in a different direction, voters polled in Colorado, Iowa and Virginia replied that it’s time for a change in direction.

Ja, no. All asswipe, of no import, perception, context, value, or insight.

Such an insightful response and just what I would have expected of you.

O course the fact that Charles Barkley was an avowed Republican till sometime in'06 has no effect on the OP's knee jerk posting.
Nor the fact that as of this moment Barkley is an Independent, not a Democrat.
Barkley's own assertion that he has voted mostly Democrat during his lifetime would seem to be contradicted by other statements he has made in the past about his party affiliation and a desire to run for Gov. of Arizona as a.....wait for it ,Republican.
Now it seems both the OP and Charles himself is a little confused, but all good as long as Sanity can accuse Democrats of having lost touch with reality everything is hunky dory here [:D]

I wouldn't be so sure parents with children in the arm services are real keen on sacrificing more American lives for people that will not defend themselves.

That probably depends on how long of a leash the Islamists are given, what kind of progress said Islamists make toward their goals, and how prominently their terror campaigns are displayed in our news feeds

Even some of the coldest people will at some point find the perceived screaming and smell of burning flesh and rivers of blood impossible to ignore

Then there is the issue that said Islamists are determined to unleash their horrors throughout Europe, the USA and the rest of the world

It remains to be seen, but even now their exploits are not being ignored by everyone

Sanity I believe it is time for the countries in the area to stand up and sacrifice their children... Myself I don't care if they kill each other... if they bother us in the future.. bomb them to oblivion...and if needed incinerate them.

I would just be sure they do not acquire the means to produce weapons of mass destruction... If that means taking out, with whatever it takes, facilities in Iran and Pakistan...and Korea.. lets do it now. Lets not wait until they have the ability to retaliate.

Dont look now Butch, but they have BEEN bothering us, since the country was founded. And Iran (very radical) is enjoying a lot of wiggle room in their quest to acquire nukes and ICBMs

Thanks, very succinct. Jordan's King Abdullah cannot be a US President, and after that it all goes downhill.

Where was the support for King Hussein when he was walking the minefields in the 50s, to almost 2000? He was just as great an ally in the middle east as Israel.

We treated him rather shabbily.

If the mincing of wording of statements is somehow meaningful and will it make a difference? Is it a solution?

Are you ready to call the holocaust Christian Terrorism?

The 'terrorism' extended to the world was not a way of life in the passing centuries why is it now? What has occurred?

Do the sequence and makeup of words make some magic potion that is the solution?

Yeah, it is asswipe. Pure and simple.

It is like saying that slavery was christian terrorism. Now what.

And I expect nothing from you, that would be remotely insightful, and have never been at least mildly surprised.

What "reality" have the Democrats lost touch with? That there's a civil war on the other side of the planet? Or is it that they're not so stoked up with war fever because they're so afraid that the "evil empire" is coming to get us? Is that what defines "losing touch with reality"?

I only linked to about 14 articles in the OP, you should be able to glean at least half a clue as to what the topic is from that

Now that is a bit of a stretch since Schuckelgruber was the democratically elected leader of the country. Terrorism, as defined by me, is the unsanctioned use of violence to strike fear into others to get them to submit to your demands when you don't have the strength of arms to have an outright war. Its why what the Nazi did were war crimes but what al'Qaeda and ISIS does is not.

I said weeks ago, and I will continue to say, the US in no way, should be involved in this alone.
We should have EVERY country around the world involved, because what is going on is a global situation.
Who the hell knows what they are doing or up to, or gathering?

..oh no! I hope they don't get nukes, oh my!..
That would not be a good thing, now would it?
[sm=goodnight.gif]

Let's just sit back and wait, and watch more atrocities, murders, etc., let them continue to grow, until at some point, we will have to become involved.
Later rather then sooner of course.
Mark my words, we WILL eventually get seriously involved, the only question now, is when.

Well, maybe I was asking you for your own arguments rather than the standard canned dialogue from the usual talking heads.

Most of the panic is manufactured by the media. It has nothing to do with "reality," however you might perceive it.

Kurdish Forces Show The Strain Of The ISIS Fight

Six months into the war against ISIS, Kurdish forces in Iraq are America’s main ally on the ground. They fight to protect their land — but also feel they’re doing the dirty work for the West.

joether -> RE: Jordan’s King Abdullah for President? (2/20/2015 9:06:50 AM)

That the OP views the subject matter like some sort of 'football match' rather than serious diplomacy, shows his level of understanding reality. Both nations readily understand and realize the dangers and destructive force ISIS can unleash. Not just is conventional warfare or dare I say it, biological or chemical warfare. But the warfare of language and belief. These two countries (Saudi Arabia and the United States of America) are not competing against each other for 'top dog' status like the op foolishly believes. They are working together in dealing with a common threat to their people. The Saudi's behave much like the Americans. They want to live in peace, educate and watch their children grow, be good neighbors, and watch society prosper. Yes, they accomplish that in different ways, and different methods. There is no competition. That is the thinking of simplistic people. ISIS removed and destroyed is a good thing for all civilized nations on Earth!

Saudi Arabia has not been mentioned in the thread until you brought it up just now

(Oops)

The thread title should have given you a 2Xclue as to which nation King Abdullah heads up

So much for how much brighter you are than "the OP"
