ORIGINAL: Aylee I disagree with this. Freedom of association means that people should be able to group themselves however they would like to. You want a book club of white women, ages 41-60, with blue hair streaks; more power to you. You want a group that includes only mothers of twins? Go for it. You want a group that includes only white males, six foot and above? Go for it. Be as inclusive or as exclusive as you would like. There is no good reason to force every group to let anyone that wants to join, join up. That would not be freedom. Agreed; with a caveat: If someone started a group called: (N)ational (A)ssociation for the (A)dvancement of (W)hite (P)eople, they'd be decried, maligned, and probably sued out of existence. Your assertion that that isn't freedom is correct but more dangerous is that we are "establishing" a system where there are two sets of rules (actually more than two) for Americans, based upon the color of their skin. I've said this, here, before: Some years ago, NYC was going to have a law, making use of "the 'N' word" illegal. I'm not a huge fan of censorship but I understand that some people feel like they have a right to go through life without being "offended" so, my take was: Okay. Whatever. The law was going to sail right on through until the "hero" of our thread (Fat Al) insisted that the law had to be written to exclude black people from it. Again, I am not disagreeing with you, per se but what we need is consistency. If the NAAWP cannot exist, the NAACP should not. That's not what we're experiencing, here. There's a report in the New York Post, today that semi-confirms what Fat Albert's organization is about. Michael
