Folks,

Some of you know that I am a die hard Genesis fan from way back in the days when Phil Collins wasn't even in the band on up to current things.

So, Mike and the Mechanics were playing locally... Mike Rutherford of Genesis fame is "Mike" in the Mechanics and I took a complete shot in the dark and I got to meet Mr. Rutherford backstage before the show.

This was a dream come true for me. Mike Rutherford was the reason I started playing bass in the first place. He has inspired my playing along with other bass players, but Mike started it all for me.

I have a Genesis tattoo on my right arm, it has 5 of their albums represented on it. A year ago I got Steve Hackett (lead guitar from 1971 to 1978) to sign my tattoo. Now, Mike Rutherford has signed it... he loved the tattoo by the way. I am... well... elated... and I had to share it with others. I know most of you couldn't care less and that is OK with me... but for you folks that understand what something like this would mean to me, you know how I feel.

Picture of the tattoo to follow

Very cool. I almost went to that show, actually, but I gave the tickets away (I didn't pay for them) so that I could be on the road to Florida.

Here's the $64 question: How'd you go about getting backstage?

Michael

Cool tat Gauge & congrats on getting to meet Mike Rutherford.
I've had a few occasions to meet Glen Frey, Tom Cochrane, Sass Jordan at one time or another. I get so tongue tied, I can't do it. The friend I attend concerts with is a horse of another color. LOL. When I noticed Glen Frey just offstage before the concert (3rd row center btw), she was pushing people down & jumping chairs. I never knew her to be so agile, but she got her autograph. It was the Toronto CNE show of Hell Freezes Over.

You have no idea how happy I am for you, brother

You should put a tat on the other arm of the klingon screaming "Give me Genesis!"

That's great Gauge! Very nice pic, tat and autograph. They played not to far from my PA neck of the woods, we might be neighbors.

I've always been a big Genesis fan also and I love Phil Collins, sexiest voice ever IMO. My screen name was inspired by the song "You'll be in my Heart" and Master calling my cell playing that song for me on my travel back to PA after the first time I went to see him in NC.

Well, getting backstage was really a stroke of luck more than anything. I cannot give details, but suffice it to say that one of the employees there was responsible... and no, I didn't know them personally or indirectly.

What bass do you currently play?

I still have my Fender Jazzmaster which I bought new in March 1967 (manufactured in November 1966 according to the internal neck stamp).
My son learned to play it some years ago and would REALLY like to have it for himself, but I'm not quite ready to give it up - yet.

I didn't know Stephen King played bass... striped or otherwise.
