INSIDEYOURMIND -> RE: How Can it Be? (11/26/2004 9:12:08 PM)

Your body likes it, but your mind does not? I disagree, your mind craves it as much, if not more than your body. The difference is that the pain is right on the outer skin of your body, but it has to travel way back into the deepest, darkest part of your mind. So what you at first do not like mentally, is just your true feelings catching up with the sensation your body has already begun to enjoy.

I looked at the photos on your profile, I see that you are pierced and tattooed, it is the same reason you keep going back for more! Its not your body that drives you back, its your mind wanting to feel what I have always called excruciating pleasure!

Pain, Itself, Elicits Pain Relief,
And Does So Through "Reward" Pathway.
A little background information for you.
Researchers have long known that the
body can activate its own form of pain
relief in response to painful stimuli.
the investigators determined that,
at its maximum, the pain relief was
as potent as a high dose of morphine.
While various individual structures
in the brain have been known to
produce analgesia, or pain relief,
when electrically stimulated or
exposed to pain, the * high * inposed
by the natural chemicals of the body
is what the body itself craves.
The finding provides the first
physiological evidence that
pain itself elicits analgesia.
It also provides a surprising
twist on the perceived workings
of the neural circuitry associated
with gratification,, hence the bodys
natural lust for more of the same
feelings at higher intensitys.
The reward pathway is a neural
network in the middle of the
brain that prompts good
feelings in response to certain
behaviors, such as relieving
hunger, quenching thirst or
having sex, or what is called
good pain, and it thereby
reinforces these evolutionarily
important drives. However,
the circuit also responds to
pain in general as a protective
responce. researchers
determined that the reward
pathway activates pain relief
through the release of both
opioids, a morphine-like drug
produced by the body, and
dopamine, a chemical messenger
whose effects can be mimicked
by amphetamine which gets the
adrenilyn flowing and is in its self
a enjoyable experiance. And
beleive it or not Drs. and scientists
have meds that are prescribed
for clients whom seek blocking
of such. and do not desire to be
a part of Our little lifestyle.
Under other conditions,
it's possible that a painful
stimulus, by activating the
nucleus accumbens, might
itself be experienced as
rewarding, as appears to
occur in self-injurious behaviors.
Interestingly, treatment for
this class of disorders,
characterized by pursuit of
painful experiences often for
apparent thrill-seeking value,
includes administration of naloxone,
a drug that blocks the effects
of opioids in this reward circuit.
But I say enjoy your bodys actions
to the reactions and welcome to
the lifestyle of Alternates! JMO[:D]

I've always thought that the things inside of ourselves that we are not aware of was one of the more important things the creators gave us,I just don't know if it is a serious thing or if they just needed an occasional laugh...no stones to throw here, I laugh at it too...Mike

RiotGirl,

Perhaps it's not the pain itself that your body is responding to, but the underlying control issue... that you've relenquished your body to someone, and allowing allowing to do these terribly wonderful things to you?

Hey, were you at the munch Saturday?

Pain and pleasure are so closely-related that we often mistake one for another. Example: Ever have great "A into B" sex until it seems to hurt?

I personally know Dom/Dommes who love to inflict pain upon others, but can't stand the thought of feeling it themselves. [:(]

Each one of us who considers ourselves to be masochistic relates to pain in different ways. Some say that it is sexually-driven, while others do not agree. With me, it is totally a sexually-oriented experience. When I see a beautiful Dominatrix, I can only think of one thing: Hurt me! Hurt me! [;)]

I can inflict pain upon myself when in a fantasy mood or mode, but I do not enjoy hitting my thumb with a hammer. It doesn't feel sexy; it just hurts!

I can endure pain for the sake of others, but they must at least be an attractive, sadistic female. However, I am not a "bottom," so I can't do that with just anyone. And at play parties, unless there is someone who I happen to be attracted to, I simply serve as the resident vanilla, or the group photographer/videographer.

OTOH, I have been totally naked in a dungeon setting with fully-clothed females around me, having my cock and balls tied up with ribbon and wearing clover clamps, while taking pictures of a needle-play and wax-play scene for about an hour. This really surprised me and turned me on, which still remains a mystery to me.

Pain is such a relative and subjective issue with each one of us, and how each masochistic individual processes this pain is a very personal experience.

I agree with those who said there is difference between erotic pain and just plain old pain. Not all pain turns me on either, but some very specific pains certainly do.[;)]

Everything ultimately is mental, so it seems you might have to try to narrow down what parts you like and what you don't. However, it sounds like you somehow do like some aspects of it. Nobody but you can come up with the answers, although we can help talk them out.

For example, in my case, I also hate pain. But I love pleasing women. There have been occasions where I've gladly received pain in order to please my partner.

Actually, it doesn't seem that strange to me at all. If we can help, keep posting! [;)]
