Status: offline 		I wish I could wear a hat!! i have really thick and curly hair..I put a hat on and it squishes down the top and pushes the bottom out sideways... I can wear hoods...that is it. Good thing I am not British.

Got to say, I have never been a fan of men wearing hats though...except Indiana Jones

They were originally made by Stetson and then became their own brand. I dunno whether you could carry them off real well in UK though unless you managed to adopt an aussie twang.

Status: offline 		Oh yes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I DO know that those who MAKE hats are called Hatters (surprise) hence the name for Luton Town Football Club. Luton was the centre of the hatting industry at one time. That's why they are all nuts there...............Mad as Hatters.

Dang, I can't find a picture of a co-worker you reminded me of.
Ok, picture heavy dreadlocks piled on top of the head and bobby pins holding a hard hat to the hair. Her hard hat is about a foot and a hallf above her skull. But, she has on the hard hat required by OSHA.

It *is* good for ideas - thank you, Shifty. In fact, a hat - wholly appropriately called a 'good boy', stuck out for me. A green trilby/fedora. I think that's what I'm going to go for.

Yup. Hats look great, to me, on women. I nearly always look twice at a woman wearing one. It's (pretty nearly literally) the icing on the cake as far as her appearance goes. Horny. I'm surprised, in a way, that women haven't started a thread on hats for themselves here (so far as I recall) - I'd have thought it was an obvious one.

Funny, really, that it took me this long to think of the equivalent item of attire for males. But, then, I don't often think of males' appearance. Well, except mine, natch. ;-)

Too big a brim for me, Dvr, also, I don't want to take the 'cowboy' route. Well, mind you - a Drizabone for the rain - a lot more useful than a brolly ....

A saddler's is worth considering, needles, but, strangely (considering this is the UK) they seem to be thin on the ground. The ones I remember seeing in the past have focused solely on riders' hats - caps and bowlers (derbys) - not my thing.

I always associate bowlers with the bully-boys hired by richies - the sorts who wear toppers, in fact. I don't suppose there's much of such associations left any more, given that mens' hats have gone so far out of fashion - but there's still a ghost of it around.

Fedoras are a classic, but you're right that they have started to garner a bit of "worn by twats" reputation in some circles. I'd go for a short-brimmed trilby instead. Same kind of effect without the unfortunate connotations. Black only. Anything else is an abomination against all that is good and holy.

Flying helmets. Unless you have a planned career as a Roy Chubby Brown impersonator, these are not an option.


I might go for a Panama in the summer, Apocalypso. I've been reading about them: amongst the most super-expensive hats in the world, if made the traditional way. I'm balking at a fedora because of that 'twat' connotation - but I have to say I do like the look of them. Apparently there are things called 'fedora-trilbies) which look like trilbies but with bigger brims. That's more my thing, I think.

I can't get my brain around the idea of a black hat with a brown jacket. Does that work? What about a dark grey - a charcoal?

I can do the drawl. Well, a Sheer Khan type drawl. And, nup, you can be sure that I'm never going to get a top hat. I can only do a couple of magic tricks.

I love seeing men and women in hats. I know when I wear a hat, it's amazing the people that interact with me, and the conversations that start just because of my headwear.

I love a man with a sense of style. It does not have to be perfect, just "him." In fact, imperfect is better, when that imperfection reflects who is is authentically.

Yes, mixing foundation colors can work. If YOU have the right attitude.
