Status: offline 		Yes; I got Hunter boots for dog walking in the rain. Although I live in Northern California and haven't needed them much for the last few years. They're great - completely waterproof and mine are bright coral :)

Status: offline 		I work in foodservice so there's always a need for non-skid shoes. Shoes for Crews can be convenient mainly because I can get them through work, but Payless also has a line of kitchen shoes that are decent in the neighborhood of $30.

Status: offline 		I've had a couple pairs(and by that I mean 2) and neither seemed anymore water proof than my normal boots.... I've had the most success with the rubber booties you wear over your shoes for swampy traversing and just getting wet in snow(the covers didn't have good traction... and Im clumsy) I have always wanted to try that spray seal stuff they have infomercials for and just coat my shoes... but now I live in the desert so no need for now.

Status: offline 		Depends on *how* waterproof and what sort of terrain and climate. All my boots and trainers have breatheable waterproof linings, now. Goretex make the top of the range linings. I've found that the el cheapo waterproof linings are good enough, though. These are fine for the standard British wetness. However, my bro, who likes to climb in snow and ice in Nepal a lot, says that leather or textile footwear with waterproof linings aren't up to the job for this: you need proper plastic boots.

Status: offline 		I agree with Peon regarding gortex. When we we are up in the Alps we could be walking through snow for days and so need some decent gortex walking boots. What you need to wear with gortex boots is 'sealskinz socks'. This is what skiers and mountaineers wear to keep their feet warm and dry because no comfortable boot is fully waterproof. If you are just walking through puddles or marshes you can wear rubber boots but I wouldn't recommend rubber for long wear because they aren't breathable.

It's hard to know what to recommend when we don't know if you're going to be standing in a pond or just getting the garden in order and dealing with mud.

Have you had personal experience with Rocky boots? All the reviews ect I've read so far have got me leaning toward them... Only, I've put a lot of money into shoes trying to get away from that 'army boot' style, but I'm just destroying these light trail shoes I'm using now.

The Gore-Tex Hiking shoes I'm using now are/were fine for my use, (Merrell Moab Gore-Tex) only, they aren't waterproof anymore. They are still comfortable but the amount of holes and rips ect have made them leak like mad. And that's after only 4 months! I think I got them for around $200AUD... That's too much money for disposable shoes. So I'm looking for durability and Gore-Tex.

They look nice, but like more of a fashion type of brand. I think I would wear them out too quick.

A decent pair of gortex hiking shoes are expensive but although they claim they are waterproof, the lining really doesn't last more than a few months (sounds like you've been extra harsh with yours!) hence wearing sealskinzs. Sealskinz are expensive but worth every quid/dollar because they really do serve you well.

Hell, four months is a pretty poor life for Goretex.

Hot and sweaty conditions. Ah. Well, you definitely want something breathable, then. I would *not* want to be afflicted with fungal attacks.

Status: offline 		A little, but only in very, very, dry conditions. They're solid and comfy (after a couple of days of breaking in).
