Dude, old news. The artifacts of his chemical weapons (that we knew he had, we give them to him) and they were crap laying around from having cleaned out and turned over to the UN.

No surprise, no WMD, no active chemical weapons program.

No spin zone.

Five years after President George W. Bush sent troops into Iraq, these soldiers had entered an expansive but largely secret chapter of America’s long and bitter involvement in Iraq.
From 2004 to 2011, American and American-trained Iraqi troops repeatedly encountered, and on at least six occasions were wounded by, chemical weapons remaining from years earlier in Saddam Hussein’s rule.
In all, American troops secretly reported finding roughly 5,000 chemical warheads, shells or aviation bombs, according to interviews with dozens of participants, Iraqi and American officials, and heavily redacted intelligence documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.
The United States had gone to war declaring it must destroy an active weapons of mass destruction program. Instead, American troops gradually found and ultimately suffered from the remnants of long-abandoned programs, built in close collaboration with the West.
The New York Times found 17 American service members and seven Iraqi police officers who were exposed to nerve or mustard agents after 2003. American officials said that the actual tally of exposed troops was slightly higher, but that the government’s official count was classified.

Chemical weapons have been an issue for the military for years.
But if you dont see the difference, between blaming obama and noticing that these .....weapons causing issues are more than a decade and a half old
welp, thats your issue and not worth commenting on any more..

What truth was that?

There were a limited supply of WMDs. A tiny level of them, but a level none the less. It was the Bush Administration that told the American people (and Congress) that Iraq had "Massive Stockpiles". How one goes from a small stockpile to filling the equivalent of five super Wal-Mart superstores to the brim, is beyond me! Yet, that is what we were told. Two or three months prior to the 2003 invasion (which was never declared as an act of war by the Republican Congress), Saddam saw the writing on the wall. He came forward and showed his country's full WMD program for all to inspect. Adding the reason for secrecy was so that Iran would not invade them (a real possibility at the time). Iraq's military went from the 4th largest in the war when America first invaded under George H. W. Bush, to a one barely able to scrape by thanks to the stiff economic sanctions in place.

It was known back in the summer and even fall of 2003 that some of our troops were/might have been exposed to chemical agents. The administration (this would be George W. Bush) did nothing about it. For five years!

Why its taken this long by the US Army to recognize it, I do not know. I agree, these soldiers should get purple hearts. Its a battlefield injury!

None the less, I hope those exposed have been able to get what ever treatment (VA, public help, private insurance) to deal with their circumstances. I hope the injuries are not long lasting. If they are, that their level of suffering is as minimal as possible. That they have plenty of good people around to help take care of them!

You want to blame the current President? OK. Just as long as your doing it twice back to the Republicans. They are the ones that created the conflict!

As late as 3/15/2013 there were no WMD's (didn't refer to quantity) in Iraq. That is Obama's Administration

The Assistant Secretary acknowledged that there were thousands of WMD's in Iraq (only some were used as roadside bombs). (Obama's Administration)

he also said that they refused proper treatment for these injuries. (Obama's Administration)

These were all old and rusting weapons that couldnt have been used during the 2003 invasion. What Bush and Blair claimed was that Iraq had wmds "Ready to fire in 30 minutes" That was bullshit then and its bullshit now. It is beyond belief you are blaming Obama in any way.

As for the age of chemical ammo, unless the CIA could get inside the bunkers, etc, there was no way to tell whether or not they were useable but you have to assume that they are. They still have usable ammo from WWII and Korea. Age doesn't necessarily mean no good. That depends on many factors. Once removed from the bunkers by whomever and burried in the ground, they begin to degrade and no long make good ammo for guns, bombs would depend on the suspension hooks on them. In oher words, they can still go boom.

The crews that went into Iraq on a "make safe" mission right after the invasion found an interesting take on the mythical WMDs in Iraq.

The manager of one of the plutonium refineries being built had sent to Baghdad a claim that they would be producing special weapons grade fissionable material within six months. But, the found level of construction was more like two years out from being in production. Can't you see the CIA analysts getting their hands on the smoke blowing memos to Baghdad and selling "They have nukes!" to the prez?

After the Iraqi troops bailed, all the secure Iraqi weapons facilities were open house for looters. The civilian contractors that were working for the army had a hell of a time trying to track the chemical and nuclear materials that had been looted from the facilities.

One that really has a sad head shake over was the guy who looted a thick walled radioactive material shipping drum full of waste. He dumped the material in his back yard and turned the drum into an oven for cooking. He tried fighting off the U.S. Troops that wanted to take his bread oven. <sigh> Meanwhile, most of his family was already sick from radiation exposure.

Yes, a lot of the early IEDs had chemical and radioactive toxins incorporated in them. I still consider it reprehensible for the DOD and V.A. to do the fingers in the ears bit when people tried to get medical care from health effecting exposures. A pint of serin may not be enough of a quantity to be called a WMD but it sure would feel like it to the platoon that gets exposed to it.
