Just out of curiosity, you don't think a request for the traditional figures on the top of cake to be two "grooms" or two 'brides" would be a clue?

That hints at a simple workaround (though one that evades the central principle) - get them to make the cake; you put your own figures on the top of it. I guess you make a point to the relevant cake maker by sending them photos of their cake being cut at the wedding.

This points to one reason we have governments - or some other authority to act as an adjudicator - to arbitrate between conflicting people's freedoms, the better to avoid descent into violence.

Denver baker sued for refusing to write anti-gay slogans on cake

According to Ms. Silva, Jack pulled out a piece of paper with the phrase “God hates gays” and anti-gay passages he said were from the Bible. Silva also said that Jack wanted her to draw two men holding hands with an “X” crossing them out. "After I read it, I was like 'No way.' " Silva told USA Today. " ‘We're not doing this. This is just very discriminatory and hateful.’ ”

Instead, Silva said she told Jack that she would make a cake with a blank Bible page so that he could draw the messages himself. She even claims she offered him frosting and a pastry bag to do so. "I told him, ‘I’ll make you a cake any flavor and shape that you like and then I’ll give you the icing and you can write the message yourself,’” Silva told the Daily News...

Jack refused, and asserts that the bakery discriminated against him based on his religious beliefs.

Jack has filed a complaint with the Civil Rights division of the Department of Regulatory Agencies. The bakery is now under investigation for religious discrimination, and if the agency feels discriminatory acts were committed, the case could move forward to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. A decision on the case will not be made for several months.

Amusing to watch the pseudo-Christians defend bigotry....

...like its a reward from 'God' to bring more pain, misery, and suffering to the world.

The issue seems to be the lady gave 150% of what the bigot cult leader wanted. An he wasn't happy. By supplying the cake, frosting and trimmings in a generic manner. And give him the tools to write whatever message he wanted. Sounds like she is a professional baker. Likewise, your assuming without evidence (oh gosh, not again!) that she is not a Christian as well. Because you assume christian = hates homosexuality in all forms. News flash for you....there are many good Christians that have no problems with gay people. In fact, they are siding with gay people in this issue with Indiana's Republicans. That law brings more pain and suffering where none is needed!

There is more I could say, but its just brutally honest. So I'm refraining from speaking such things.

Some guy orders a wedding cake. Does the baker have a right to interrogate the customer on how the customer plans on using the cake? NO. None of their fucking business! An contracted to deliver the cake on a certain date at a certain place before a certain time. Unless that baker is moon lighting as a private investigator; what business is it to them, whom the cake is for?

Just out of curiosity, you don't think a request for the traditional figures on the top of cake to be two "grooms" or two 'brides" would be a clue?

But lets torpedo your argument one more time (because this is fun). How does the pseudo-Christian baker know that the money they are holding....didn't....come from a gay wedding, but given to them by a heterosexual guy whom fixes cars, whom got the money from another heterosexual guy whom sells health insurance, whom got it from a gay couple looking to make long term plans?

Just out of curiosity, what bearing does who is paying for the cake have on the objection to contributing to the celebration of a gay marriage?

K.

when the post started off with bullshit like "Funny how those pseudo-Christians dont have a problem baking a cake for the Muslims to celebrate someone's birthday." that should have been your first clue that the rest was probably not going to make a lot of sense.

Well I don't know about you but I would rather not have to work around getting the cake I want. Much easier to know up front there won't be a problem and go in being honest. If the baker has a problem then I would much rather go somewhere else than try to trick him into baking me one. Why would I want to force my money on someone who feels that way about my lifestyle? There are too many out there who would welcome the business.

That's right joether, when a wall of text doesn't convince them, tell a few lies. Perhaps someone will wander in who hasn't read past threads and actually believe your bullshit. Of course it won't take them long to understand you just like to lie about people. But until then you might have a few fans.

If that was considered traditional for two grooms or two brides to be on a wedding cake; that would imply no one has a problem with gay marriage.

Do you have a problem with gay marriage?

If the cake is generic, and the person plans on adding two grooms to it later; what should the baker care? Bakers, if you dont understand, tend to be artists in their own right. Many bakers will have no problem with two people marrying for good reasons. Be they man & women, two men, or two women. Its just a cake that gives them gross profit, right? Many bakers will add to the generic cake to make it more appealing to the consumer. More cakes bought from happy customers, the more business they will likely have. Of course, being a dickhead in the community gets around pretty fast when your business depends upon the public.

I just took the logic to its conclusion. That if the pseudo-Christian has a problem with gay marriage, then any money given to them, from any source, could have come from a gay person doing something gay. Therefore, can not accept any money, unless they can verify completely the money has never been in the hands of gay people.

What these bigots dont know, is that the US Government has a few gay people at the US Treasury that touch each bill at least once.....

Is that your best jab boi? To attack and insult me? Really a lame attempt. Because you don't have anything useful or intelligent to counter what I stated, you just resort to petty attacks. Is that what you are now? Petty?

Where did I lie in that passage? There are good Christians whom have no problems with gay people. And there are pseudo-Christians that are bigots. Seems I was pretty truthful here.

Just because you dislike an argument doesn't mean its untrue or a lie.

What point would that be? That the gay/lesbian couple made someone unknowingly violate their religious beliefs? This from people that expect you to recognize their right to follow theirs?

To me the boycott is one of the saddest things about all this. The people it is going to hurt the most didn't have anything to do with it. I guess we are not supposed to care about the gay business owners there.

I'm getting sick of this boycott crap. I'm going to boycott CA and NY that'll show 'em. Taken to its logical conclusion, everyone could boycott something to the point that everything and every place is being boycotted by someone.

Shoot, I've been avoiding anything New York or California for almost a decade now.
Too much craziness there. New York even had to import a crook from Arkansas to fill their Senate seat. <grin>

Actually, Arkansas was just a "stop-over" for her. She's originally from Chicago; part of that long-standing tradition of "proper" politics.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana's Republican legislative leaders have unveiled changes to the state's new religious objections law that has faced criticism it could allow discrimination against lesbians and gays.

The amendment to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act released Thursday prohibits service providers from using the law as a legal defense for refusing to provide services, goods, facilities or accommodations. It also bars discrimination based on race, color, religion, ancestry, age, national origin, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or United States military service.

A conference committee must discuss the proposed changes to the law, and both the House and the Senate will need to approve them before they can go to Gov. Mike Pence.

Pence called for changes to clarify the law Tuesday in response to an uproar fueled by discrimination concerns.

The Indiana Governor's actions seem to confirm the criticisms that were levelled at the new law. It is clear that Pence was forced into backtracking by the hostile response to the new laws from all quarters. The admission that changes are needed to exclude discrimination against minority communities implicitly confirms that the new laws were flawed and that action is needed to remove these flaws.

Hopefully the legislature will get it right this time. If and when it does, we can chalk this up as a victory for the good guys and a defeat for the bigots. What's not to like about that?

Actually, it's doubtful if the baker would be protected, here. The baker cited "discriminatory and hateful behavior". They didn't invoke the magic word "religion" (according to what's posted, here). Whereas the potential customer was exercising what he believes to be his religion. It would seem that this would be covered as "the baker, discriminanting (in keeping with the thread title) against the potential customer because of the latter's religious beliefs." It would be like a Muslim baker refusing to service a Jewish customer, just because the baker sees the Yarmulke.
