I'm actually not against the pizzeria owner for standing up for her beliefs, though they are contrary to my own. The Bible has numerous verses about persecution. Faith is meant to be tested, time and time again. Which is what I mean by each of us being ultimately responsible for our own religious beliefs, and adhering to them. Sacrificing monetary gains instead of your immortal soul seems kinda important. Government can't guarantee your afterlife, but I am glad that ours provides the freedom to steer our own course in getting there.

With that said, I will likely never step foot in Memories Pizza. I've never been to Indiana, and see no reason for a trip there in the near future. But I have no desire to go against my own beliefs to continue stirring the pot against anyone that's already suffering.

I do however live maybe 20 minutes from Cut The Cake. And I do love cake. So I'll likely stop in at some point over the next week or so and see what they have available. Their website looks promising.

I agree that both the pastor and reporter/editor are all assholes. [:D]

Instead of being a moral question, this is now a legitimate legal issue.

Does government have a compelling reason to burden the beliefs of those that are religious? To what degree?

I think Indiana lawmakers decided that interstate commerce was a compelling enough reason in this particular case. Arkansas and other states have agreed. Did gay rights come into play for any of the Republicans anywhere? Not for me to judge.

And perhaps you failed to notice, or hope everyone else did, that there is nothing in that definition about "hatred" and "intolerance." Which isn't to say that that meaning isn't creeping into our dictionaries. Just not all of them, yet. It will get there though, and few people will realize the degree to which the original meaning of the word has been changed and re-purposed for political effect.

Believe me DS, a lot of limeys cant. I have sailed on ships where there might have been 30 different accents among a crew of 50 who came from all points south of Stornoway ( and some of those only spoke gaelic) all the way to Lands End and all points in between as well as a couple of complete foreigners ( Mauritians and Kiwis).After ten months or so with that lot, you manage to get a vague idea what they are all about. Wait until you have the misfortune to be in the company of a Stornowegian, a Glaswegian, a Geordie, a Scouse, a Cockney and maybe a Janner.....................That will REALLY test you *smile*, especially if they are all 3 parts drunk.
