Nothing says "let's go kill some Christians like hip-hop/rap......

Yet again, MSNBC had to issue an on-air apology, after one of its left-wing guests on Wednesday made an outrageous statement. On Now With Alex Wagner, Ebony.com's senior editor Jamilah Lemieux responded to Senator Ted Cruz's statement about listening to country music after 9/11 by snarking, "Nothing says, let's go kill some Muslims like country music"

researchers categorized music according to pairs of descriptors: Reflective and Complex, Intense and Rebellious, Upbeat and Conventional, and Energetic and Rhythmic.

the upbeat and conventional category which included soundtracks, country, religious and pop, positively correlated with political conservatism, and negatively correlated to political liberalism.

the short of it, speaking very broadly---liberals don't like country music and conservatives do.

Status: offline 		I'm not sure the phrase "thug life" was in use...but I take your meaning.
Music is often the language of the disaffected...and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Having a voice is a hell of an outlet.
Every generation needs their own voice and every generation speaks with multiple voices,hence differing genres.
No real harm ,least not none I object to.

Status: offline 		Every generation of teenagers seems to want to shock their parents with their music choice. And, as a bit of teen angst rebellion, it is understandable.

What is insidious is when the music is taken seriously and violence is taken to be something commendable.

Remember the cry "Sex, Drugs, and Rock n' Roll"? Is the new teen cry really "Pimps, Hoes, and drive-by shooting"? Yep, I'm a crochety old fart that shakes his head at romanticizing destructive violence. "Gangsta Rap" and "Narco Corrido" are so NOT on my play list.

If you haven't run across Narco Corrido; it is the same deification of drugs and violence done in Spanish (I will admit it is more lyrical than rap.)

I always say that rap is misspelled. It's always spelled without the "silent C" at the beginning. lol

I thought that was the case till more recently ... now, the vast bulk of it seems just bland to me. On the other hand, admittedly, most of what I know comes as a result of the appalling talentless garbage they play at my gym - and I've come to suspect that all music at all gyms has to pass a very stringent crapness test before they'll play it.

Elvis hip rolls as twerking in the 60s.... Yep, Elvis was only shown from the waist up on the Ed Sullivan show as his hip movements were "vulgar and sexually suggestive". Compare that with Marilynn Manson giving a BJ on stage during a concert.... way over the top.

Elvis was quite the rocker prior to his induction,once his service was up and he went Hollywood,it didn't seem to matter what his hips were doing anymore.
The music was so sanitized no amount of movement could engender fear in anyone
