IcarusBurning -> men out of your league? (3/30/2015 10:08:36 PM)

hey all

i guess this question is more out of innocent curiosity..

has it ever happened that ladies have considered a man to be way out of their league? and not because of his wealth, but rather due to his personality, conduct and deportment.

i know the reverse often happens, but just wanted to know whether women have felt the same way too..

Never. It's happened the other way around though.

Pardon if I seem a bit obtuse but wouldn't this suggest a belief in superiority (or the observer's own inferiority)?

Yes, but usually way out of my league because they're uneducated, have the social charm of a badger, and etiquette that would make Jed Clampett look like James Bond.

Same here. This may be because my highest priority is seeking an intellectual and intuitive rapport, which is a big part of a man being able to connect with me on both mental and heart levels, in order to keep up with me. Further, a cold-hearted man is not suited for entering into a relationship with any woman, not just myself especially.

I don't see socioeconomic advantage as being so significant. Nor having 3 degrees hanging from his wall -- he could still be a blithering idiot or a self-absorbed lunatic. [:D]

Ditto, unless he's Melanie Duncan, then I'd rethink that.

DerangedUnit -> RE: men out of your league? (3/30/2015 11:13:15 PM)

I don't see that ever happening... not because I don't think anyone might be out of my league... but most people aren't even playing the same sport.

I don't notice guys.... at all. Unless they make themselves very very obvious, repeatedly. So I wouldn't even notice if a guy thought he was out of my league.

It's an interesting question, sort of ...

I'll set aside the whole "superiority/inferiority" thing, for now.

The OP mentions, specifically: " ... due to his personality, conduct and deportment."

While he is asking the ladies, I can say that just about anyone has had this experience. Some might call it: "Dating".

Happened all the fucking time. It was why I was single for 14 years... no woman wanted any part of me because I was so... well... so... personality and conduct and deportment.

Doesn't the question imply that all men are league players?

Sure.. dominant men can be intimidating and let off an aura of unapproachability. If I'm feeling vulnerable or having issues with
self-esteem or uncertainty I might view myself as out of their league even if it really is just a matter of being incompatible.

It may be semantics but it's cool. Right now I'm pretty much in a league of my own and still working on figuring out this
brave new world.

IcarusBurning -> RE: men out of your league? (3/31/2015 3:29:04 AM)

boy, other than Gauge we men must be making a rather poor impression of ourselves!

no i did not mean it in the "cold, unapporachable"sense. i dont see why thats desirable either. i meant it more than "he's so charming i dont have the courage to go up and talk to him" type. the richard gere type, if you will. :P

ExiledTyrant -> RE: men out of your league? (3/31/2015 3:31:44 AM)

I don't think superiority/inferiority is what he had in mind.

NookieNotes -> RE: men out of your league? (3/31/2015 5:49:36 AM)

Nope. I don't make those kind of judgement calls. It's all about compatibility or no.

Where did you find this picture of me and my guy?

But yes OP. I'm a big girl, it kills my confidence. College was basically a series of relationships I was surprised I was in.
However- I don't really care about his looks that much. I care more about my own because seemingly- everyone else does?
Recently I had a friend of mine sorta profess he would go after me if I were single and I was totally dumbfounded cause he could get so much better than me, and has, our entire friendship.

Current man and I are well matched- we compliment each other well.

Please do not mistake me for saying I need someone to complete me- I'm perfectly complete on my own- but often times my men have made me self concious either because of status or looks.

GoddessManko -> RE: men out of your league? (3/31/2015 7:31:10 AM)

I change my mind. My bestie and I are toying with this insane idea of trying to have me and my celebrity crush in the same room at the same time. Which I feel is a reach but would be a fun story/experience. I think it's an excuse for him to have me move out to the Left Coast.
