Intellectual discourse is a discussion between equals on non-trivial matters. Science, mathematics, literature, art, the nature of the human condition; what used to be called philosophy.

Ipso facto, I hardly see how it could be done as a service to someone who is, at least in context, ruling over you and therefore not equal at the moment. It can be accomplished by lovers when not in a scene, but not as a matter of service.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I guess when I speak with my man about these "non trivial" matters, he's technically not "my Master". Meh-- I've heard worse.

I may not be her equal (ever because our dynamic is 24/7) but my, having authority does not make me smarter or better than she is.

Her ability to engage my mind as well as my lust is pleasing to me and I consider it a part of her service.

This. But then I thought about it a for a few moments, wondering if I really consider it to be "service." Pleasing, yes. But service? I considered that when he's not in the mood for discussion, it doesn't happen. It's his call. I can usually at least have a fair go at engaging his mind, but only when he's in the mood for it. It's maybe in my nature to take his cue and not force a discussion he's not in the mood for. But I'm still hesitating on "service" when it does happen.

You don't think a person can have a challenging conversation with a subordinate? I don't think being lovers and having an imbalance of power are mutually exclusive things. I love having someone to talk to about stuff, we don't have to be equal in any sense.

I'm becoming pretty self-indulgent in my old age. I have to admit, most things I surround myself with these days are geared towards being pleasing. You should see my leather book collection... Beautiful. (The only shade of grey in it, is Dorian.) So I tend to agree with your point of view from that perspective. However I'm open to the idea that we are both just deluded lol.

Don't all forms of service only happen when he wishes them to?

I think just by virtue of us, being human there are times when even discussion isn't welcome. My own personal reasons for this, aside, just like other people, I am not always in the mood for intellectual discourse. Either she recognizes that (usually) or I gently let her know that I am just not in the mood for it, at that moment. It's still up to me whether or not she engages with me, in that fashion.

What it all comes down to, for me, is that it is infinitely more desirable to have a lady in my life that has the ability to engage me in such a way so that when it's wanted (usually), it is easily accessible.

It's kind of like: I like to cook and I prefer to do the cooking (big "Thank you"s to my grandmothers), but it's nice to have a lady that can cook (to my likes and standards) so that I can say: "Why don't you make something, tonight?" and know that I am still going to enjoy my meal. I absolutely consider that a service but it only happens, when I wish it.

Michael

So in that scenario, there's no room for anticipatory service.
Even if she knows you're working or studying late, she can't decide to have some fried chicken and rice ready, despite knowing you always enjoy that dinner?

I have absolutely NO idea what you're asking.

If it's to get chics (and how to get them to respond to you)....stop talking about your dick, what you want them to do to your dick or anything at all to do with your dick.

They actually know you have one and....that you want them to do something with it.

(And....for the record....they have a resource....it allows them to get dick).

But as the 1st reply stated, intellectual discourse means talking about something other than sex and your particular kink. Although it certainly could include those... Having a discussion about something other than American Idol, Kim Kardashian, or your favorite sports team can be very satisfying. Maybe not in a sexual way, unless that's your kink.

I would have to disagree with the idea that an intellectual discourse is reliant on topic. Intellectual discourse is the WAY you talk about something, not what you are talking about.

To me, an intellectual discourse is any discussion that attempts to examine a topic from multiple perspectives, sometimes contrary or even mutually exclusive, in an attempt to arrive at as objective an understanding as possible by employing reason and logical analysis.
