Local laws against concealed or open carry at festivals or conventions can play a part. In my local area, when you go to a gun show the weapons you carry in have to be "visibly safed". This usually entails a bright red tie wrap rendering the weapon unable to be loaded.

All in all, this thread seems to be more trolling the meme that anyone with an interest in firearms is a slavering mass murderer waiting to go postal.

While I have been a life member of the nra for more than 50 years I have some issues with them. This has just become one more. One would think that they would only pick venues that would not cause an issue. Why pick a place where it is obvious that your detractors will ambush you? One would think they would have someone in p.r who might give them a heads up since wlp seems to have his someplace where the sun don't shine.

Wouldn't it be amusing if over four hundred Muslim Arab Americans showed up with guns? Then be told they have to make their guns 'in-operate-able' by the NRA? I wonder what would happen shortly after that.....

Because one's religion nor ancestory should be a barrier to a firearm, right?

As vendors? I think that it is fine. They just have to pull the firing pins. As folks just walking in? Not so good as it is against the venue rules/laws.

Why would their religion make a difference with these rules?

It is both hilarious and revealing that the NRA doesn't even trust its own members and supporters enough to let them have the same level of lethal weapon access that they advocate for schools.

The people frequenting this show will be NRA members and supporters and other legal gun owning types and enthusiasts, the very people who the NRA assures us can be trusted with lethal weapons in public places. The same people who could be counted on to supply the 'armed citizen' that stops crazed mass murderers in full flight with a well aimed bullet or two in the imaginary scenarios that the NRA and pro gun types assure us would occur if there were more guns available.

It seems that the NRA doesn't trust them enough to behave responsibly at a gun show. And if the NRA doesn't trust them why should the rest of us?

This has been answered repeatedly. They are following the laws and rules of the venue that they are at. Twit.

Oh, even greater is the great hypocrisy of their allowing their god given second amendment rights to be abridged in the quest for lobby money and given citizens; free speech.

It would seem that they should be attending venues that do not abridge that right.

The issue has come up before, and some NRA members have suggested as much. But so far the NRA has held to the position it articulated back in 2010. There's nothing new here.

The fact is if NRA only went to places that allowed CCW in convention centers, we would be limited to 2 or 3 choices... Because of the size of NRA’s conventions, we already are limited with our choices of cities that can accommodate us. We also strive to have regional balance to allow members from all over the country to attend. ~pagunblog

As for the NRA obeying the law, it's rather amusing to see some people holding that against them.

The nra's stated position is ridiculous on it's face.
The following states allow open carry. It would seem that there must be some place in those states with a barn big enough for the nra to have a meeting in if thy chose. That they do not would indicate that there is some other agenda driving the venu location.

Of course there is "some other agenda" driving their choice. Attendance. Their requirements for a venue include a surrounding high population density containing enough NRA members within a day's drive to support a large event. If carry is allowed then so much the better, but it's not the defining criterion.

It's truly a shame that stupidity doesn't cause debilitating pain.

This situation has nothing to do with what the NRA "trusts", the rules of the venue (the Bridgestone Arena) prohibit weapons. You might want to have someone read to you the following article that explains what's really going on here.

The map in the link sorta puts a hole in that.
I remember once being at a "lifestyles" convention in reno where the lifestyle folks had rented the top nine floors for a week long event. When it was over the lifestyle folks told the reno hilton that they were interested in doing it again the following year. The managment of the reno hilton told them in no uncertain that their disgusting event would never be allowed in the reno hilton again. They then went on to list the many (and there were many) transgressions of hotel decorum that had occured over the past week. The lifestyle organizer simply replied that they were willing to take the whole hotel for their next event. Hotel management caved instantly. My point is that the nra is somewhat larger than the lifestylers and way more financial clout.

If at some point those lifestyle folks had wanted to bring weapons into the hotel and the management had ignored existing laws to let them you might have a point. Otherwise it's apples and oranges.

I fail to see why people are getting all worked up because the nra is suggesting it's members obey the law. Unless of course they just like bitching about the nra.

thompsonx -> RE: Too funny to resist. (4/9/2015 1:06:13 PM)

Will rodgers once said that before you can attempt to change my mind it would be helpful if you knew my opinion.
Had you read my first post you would know that I have been a life member of the nra for 50 years.
Had you actually acquainted yourself with the discussion you would not appear such an ignorant individual who only post to see your name in print.
Lets see if I can bring you up to speed since you are too indolant to do it yourself.
If the nra wished to avoid this sort of shit all they have to do is hold the event where there are no issues. Instead of doing that they choose a venue that will allow their detractors to make fun of them.
Just as the reno hilton had issues with the life stylers that were solved by the judicious application of money so also might the nra find a similar venue that would pose fewer issues.
It is not a question of the lifestylers being armed it is a question of conflicts with the venue policies. In the case of the reno hilton and the nra venue was the issue of liability. The reno hilton felt that "that sort" of public behaviour was a liability to them just as the insurance carriers feel the loaded gun policy was a liability...my point was that money solves those problems. I posted a link to the many places that are more nra "compatible" with huge population centers and numerous event venues.

The anti-NRA crowd will always find a narrative to push no matter what the NRA does, so fuck'em if they can't take a joke.

While leftists clearly obsess over conservative groups and television networks etc, Christians, candidates like Palin... I dont see the same being true the other way around

Discussion occurs, absolutely. But we still see leftists sputtering their hatred toward Reagan on a regular basis when Reagan has absolutely zero to do with the topic
