In the Tuesday election the citizens of Ferguson took their first steps in taking control of their future. Three African American councilman were elected making it three white and three black. This is the way to go and I hope other areas of the country where there is an African American majority take notice of these results. The one white elected, an X major, has pledged cooperation with the new black councilmen. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The black voter participation doubled in some wards and shows that the African American people of Ferguson have realized the proper way to force change in their community... I think this is great and I am very optimistic.

It's the quality of the people who get elected that matters, not their color. And since Ferguson elected the previous council too, there is little reason to think that anything has changed except the color of the window dressings.

We have seen how electing someone based on the color of their skin doesnt always work out as many anticipate

kdsub -> RE: Good for you Ferguson (4/9/2015 2:19:48 PM)

I have listened to two of the elected officials and they seem very level headed and are looking for the right changes I believe. You are right about the color but remember they also elected a white man. To me the doubling of participation in the voting process is a step forward. Those that they voted for were black but so what... they were elected for their ideas and that is what counts.

More than 40 white guys in a row seemed to be pretty good at fucking shit up and being stupid.
Maybe you should quit voting the color line.

Unlike the state and federal levels, I find 'the party' does not matter as much at the local level. That the individual either shines or sinks based on their abilities and whom/how they work with other government personnel. When most people vote, its just a name and party; they don't bother checking....who...they are voting on. that is how bad government comes into being. That and few candidates running for an office spot. In the private sector such a job might see hundreds if not thousands of applications; yet in the public sector there is usually less than two or three.

I've tried to get to know the people I'm voting on in the local election. Most of them are those that belong to area organizations or are known for various reasons.

It will be interesting to see if other townships take what happen in Ferguson into mind when handling elections. I suspect most people will not have a thought until something blows up. Literally or figuratively.

Did you just pull that out of your hip pocket with your copy of horatio alger? Do you have any evidence that local politics are any less partisan than washington or the state house?

JVoV -> RE: Good for you Ferguson (9/7/2015 12:59:37 PM)

It's important for community representatives on all levels to be a reflection of the diversity in that community. The only way to make that happen is by people showing up to vote.

A choice between al gore and dubbya?
A choice between hillary and trump?
A choice between being hit with a stick or being hit with a different stick?
Not everyone enjoys being hit with a stick. Why would anyone play poker with a table full of known card cheats?

I can only speak on the local politics in my area obviously. From my observations, it really doesn't matter if someone is Democrat or Republican. Everyone wants the schools to have good funding. The roads kept up to date. The roads plowed in the winter. The police, fire, and EMTs are well trained and geared. Yes, we have some 'give and take'. At the end of the day, we understand we are neighbors. That was have a right to disagree on things.

As one moves up to a state level and even to a federal, do I observe 'party politics'.

Did you notice that those on the school board may have an interest in a particular publisher of school books? Did you notice that the fellow who got the contract to fill the pothols in the road was someone's brother in law? Then of course if you happened to read the doj report on furgustan you would be aware of the criminal behaviour of the cops and the city council and the municipal courts. Shit is the same in the basement as it is the attic.

If you have an actual accusation....WITH EVIDENCE....please state it. Life in my town and the towns around it do not operate like 'hill billy land' where you come from. People are much more educated and perceptive of the 'good old boy network' when it comes to government.

Ferguson has some real problems. It happens when people do not only not take notice, but do nothing about it. Until a REAL problem explodes in their faces. Then you'll watch all the ones that could have done something about it, slither away into the background and hope no one notices. Which is why it takes all people to keep updated on 'what's going on in government'. Had the people of Ferguson been paying attention, asking good questions, and demanding good answers to those questions; could even have been adverted? Perhaps....

thompsonx -> RE: Good for you Ferguson (9/8/2015 4:41:35 PM)

Didn't the thugs in fergustan just arrest a person who is running for city council?

kdsub -> RE: Good for you Ferguson (9/8/2015 5:29:34 PM)

Nope... Damn THUGS

thompsonx -> RE: Good for you Ferguson (9/8/2015 5:48:24 PM)

Was he one of the thugs who arrested the person running for city council to shut them up. If he is not part of that then why are you bringing it in. If he is then his tears don't mean shit. I am speaking specifically about the one incident. In a related incident you are aware that they (the fergustan thugs) have 7 more days to produce the data or someone may go to jail.

kdsub -> RE: Good for you Ferguson (9/8/2015 5:55:41 PM)

Wrong city my friend... that did not happen in ferguson

I guess we can add your name to the list of morons who talk about fergustan without actually knowing a phoquing thing. Perhaps if you were to read the reports by the doj you might disabuse yourself of your self imposed ignorance.
