I am from Columbia SC. The Capitol of our state, about 150 miles from Charleston SC. All of our News media Outlets have been reporting this as "Cop Fatally Shoots Unarmed Man"

Now, The New York Times and the national news has been reporting this "White Cop Murders Unarmed Black Man"

WHOA WHAT THE DIFFERENCE.

Our local media reports the facts and only the facts. But the National medial is using the word MURDER and WHITE BLACK

I do not support the cop or for that matter anyone that kills and innocent unarmed man THE COP SHOULD GET WHAT'S COMING TO HIM!!

But isn't it Interesting, that these words are being used, These words are being used to sell papers and Stir up anger in both communities!

Murder is the killing of another person without justification or valid excuse. Shooting a person in the back and killing them when they pose no threat to you seems to qualify. With that in mind, what part of "White Cop Murders Unarmed Black Man" isn't factual?

DungeonDaddy67 -> RE: Charleston SC Shooting (4/9/2015 12:53:10 PM)

it is factual, but you can't see that there is a most definite slant here to make it a racial thing instead of a murder thing

It not a "racial thing" or a "murder thing", it's both and there's no escaping that.

I have lived in s.carolina. I found bigotry to be pervasive.
"White cop murders black man" is considered just a yankie euphimism for some black fella stealing more chain than he could swim with.
The punk is in custody charged with murder. I would say the s. carolina papers are the ones being less than candid.

Naaa, it is a southern paper vs northern paper thing. Journalists in the south are often taught to meticulously avoid references to race in stories as that would be racist reporting. Papers in the northern states seem to insinuate race into as many stories as possible so as to portray as many victims as possible.

New York Times deserves a slap on the wrist for using a racist headline like, "White Cop Murders Unarmed Black Man".

I see in that video a real example of siege mentality at work. Adrenaline pumped over reaction. The officer should have communicated more clearly and so should the driver that was shot.

"Give me your license and registration!" instead of "Where is your license and registration?" was a set up for unexpected action on the part of the detained driver. It was a senseless shooting brought about by poor communication and an assumption of aggression.

Yeah, what'd bout all the unarmed White people cops shoot every day?Oh yeah, that's right, they don't get shot(unless they're homeless wielding a swiss army knife at a swat officer)

PyrotheClown -> RE: Charleston SC Shooting (4/11/2015 3:34:49 PM)

I have a dream, that some day, white unarmed citizens and black unarmed citizens can hold hands and be shot by racially undefined police officers together....lol

It certainly looks like murder, however I have not seen any evidence that race had anything to do with it.
