You got that right NookieNotes, being shy or reserved when meeting a stranger had nothing to do with either of those conditions.
Those who know me rather think I am too extrovert, which happened just some days ago at a rather large birthday party.

And in the SM contact, I am certainly not one alpha-type either (well I am a switch actually but my track record in 99% on the dominant side).
I remember a few cases when submissive females have turned me down on the first or second date, since they thought I were way to soft, but that little devil on my shoulder will not get started before I know the person very well.

Reminds me of a local sub who through I was a submissive as well for a long time, simply because I didn't play (and still don't) much in public, and because I was always polite to subs and doms alike.

LOL!

When I was a sub, I'd never met a shy Dominant but I was a very shy submissive re: meeting new people. Now that I'm a Dominant myself, I remember my early days as a Domme. I was still very shy and, as such, I had a hard time meeting submissives in the get to know you stage, it really interfered with it A LOT. They had no idea how to react and I understand totally. I think I was unsure of myself and my abilities and not sure how I came across because I was a newbie, as well as it being a personality trait from the time I was very young. Now that I'm sure of myself and comfortable in my own Dominance, I'm not so shy anymore and more assertive(NOT aggressive). That seems to work a lot better when meeting new people. ;-)

I used to be that way but now I burn out easily. I only have a certain amount of energy which is why I'm thoroughly irritated when someone wastes or plays with my time. In the past if I burned out on being around certain soul sucker lifeforce drainers I would just sleep in for a few days. Now? Eh I don't have the luxury. So yes I'm considered incredibly shy. Still I find I learn more about people when I shut my trap and observe.

If my master were shy (let's not kid ourselves, I'm extremely introverted and I do blush! The thing does exist.) I would consider it part of my duties to help him over it,

Please don't be shy, please I'm begging you!

There's a bit of 'damned if you are and damned if you aren't' going on here. 'Not' being socially shy does not equate to being an over the top Alpha person; 'not' being shy just means you don't feel intimidated by others. You don't have to be gregarious, loud or the bell of the ball. You can sit quietly at the back of the room and not feel an ounce of shyness.

I can honestly say that I haven't met shy dominants but perhaps that's because they were so shy, they never got around to introducing themselves [:)]
