Cured by SCIENCE! I hate being cynical, but I think even this will be stopped by the GOP. As that group seems to be against science or anything that positively advances humanity. Optimistically, I hope this is a process that can help many people, not just in America. That its not expensive or with even minor side effects. An that this technology helps bridge off to other areas to help heal people of problems they are experiencing.

If it is the GOP that hates science, why is it the liberal enclaves that have the lowest vaccination rates? And are still spreading the vaccines cause autism lie?

It is odd; the difference in the media presented public face of Republicans and sentiments for that party among tech workers. Maybe it is tradition; engineers are Republican and Democrats are drawn from fuzzy wuzzy majors. Anyway, silly anecdotal observations aside; a more systematic look at the party divide can be found at: http://www.people-press.org/2012/06/04/section-9-trends-in-party-affiliation/ Personally I think both parties need to divorce themselves from their lunatic fringes and go back to trying to do what is best for the country instead of starting spitball wars with the party across the aisle. (Yes, I find Congress often to be childish in their infighting)

The mid-term election of just 36.5% of the total population is just sad! The ones that cam out to vote were more likely to be passionate about politics rather than a 'ho-hum' view on the topic. So while I agree, it would be nice if Congress would get its 'shit in gear' on science and technology; we as a nation are at the mercy of individuals that understand neither concept well enough. And we will pay a heavy price for that ignorance as time goes on. Other nations are putting their policies and laws to handle the rapid pace of technology. Using new concepts to better the people in their nation. For Congress to improve, would take many actions. I think we had a thread on it not to long ago. And I think most of us agreed, that until we are serious has a nation to deal with Congress, Congress is not going to get better.

Generally, every new scientific discovery seems to have a huge impact on politics. Every new piece of technology also seems to have a big impact on politics. My cynical view on the GOP/TP is one in which this group is often against the concept even after its explain how useful it is to humanity. I can understand being ignorant of the science or technology. But still expressing the same viewpoints after the information was given that disproved or removed the previous arguments? That's just silly. For example, the proliferation of drones (an emerging technology). That they would be used in agriculture, movies, emergency services, real estate and even scientific exploration....did not....stop the GOP/TP from using the idea that *ALL* drones would be used to spy on Americans by the US Government. That's right, even my quadcopter, that has no camera attached to it, would some how be spying on conservative Americans for the NSA! Or the concept of 'Net Neutrality'. That because the President was in favor of it, found immediate oppositions from conservatives. When asked about it, they clearly displayed not having a clue on the concept. But since the Mr. Obama was in favor of the idea, they had to oppose the idea. Even though they dont want the government or large multi-national corporations spying on them! Even after explaining it, they STILL dont get it! Why make this a topic here? I just like seeing whom is in favor of the concept. Also, its a curious observation that any topic that is non-hostile receives only a couple posts. But the thread that is hostile, in which one or more individuals becomes over-passionate (that's the kind way of saying 'attacks the person not the topic') and the topic is locked down by the moderators. After which some of us get those nice golden emails....
