Hopefully Florida pays attention.

Story here

Ducey support of gay adoption surprises critics, allies

Republican Gov. Doug Ducey, who won office with significant help from some of the state's most socially conservative leaders, took many by surprise this week with an order that the state immediately resume allowing married same-sex couples to foster and adopt children.

His position runs counter to the beliefs held by many of his supporters, and it has elicited cheers from many who didn't vote for him.
But for Ducey, this issue is partly personal, not just political.
Ducey himself is adopted — his stepfather adopted him and his siblings in the 1970s and he took his stepfather's last name. Ducey and his family also have personal experience with the foster-care system: His nephew was a foster child. And his wife, Angela, is trained as a court-appointed special advocate.
"All children deserve a loving home, and under my watch, I'm committed to making sure government encourages that," Ducey said in his statement.
Ducey issued his statement hours after he learned that for the past few months the Arizona Department of Child Safety, which is under his jurisdiction, had since February been denying licenses to married same-sex couples seeking to jointly adopt or foster children.

I think I'm actually gonna start paying attention to this guy.

Maybe there's hope for the GOP in a few years.
