Marc2b -> MOM! (4/28/2015 4:26:12 AM)

You're embarrassing me in front of the other rioters!

Okay, I normally do not approve of parents beating their kids but under the circumstances - well, sometimes Mom just has to take charge. She may well have saved his life. Given how easily a mob mentality can lead to a lowering of inhibitions against violence - she may have saved someone else from him.

Some mothers do try their best. It's pity more don't. Good for her. The kid is lucky to have her. One video I saw of the Ferguson looting captured a woman with a child in tow, getting her kid started early on his way to the good life.

More parents like her and we wouldn't have half the crime problem we do.

That was great.

subrob1967 -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 5:32:41 AM)

How long until Children & Family Services shows up and has her arrested for child abuse?

NookieNotes -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 5:36:04 AM)

Love.

slvemike4u -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 8:44:56 AM)

Oh boy.....so many conflicting thoughts on that.

It's a little bit hard for me to join in the love fest for this mother....almost as hard as finding anything negative to say about her.

I will say though that the idea that we need more parents beating more children(as one poster suggested)....that's a bridge too far for me,way too far [8|]

kdsub -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 8:51:23 AM)

God bless her... now I just wish I could see her and her son protesting police treatment of citizens and discrimination in employment in front of the Mayor's office.

Yes...she should have reasoned with the little darling.

Or .and this seems like a better idea(and one not dripping with sarcasm) she could have done a better job raising him in the first place.

Yanno ,raise him so at the age he apparently is he doesn't need his mother to come along and smack him upside his head so that he realizes a situation he doesn't belong in.

Any chance that option occurred to you......or did the bible tell you this was the way to handle it ?

I tried to sympathize but you had to come along and be an ass...so now I'll extend the question to everyone on the thread.
Wouldn't it have been a better option to have raised a son who wouldn't have been caught dead in such a crowd ?

Certainly thats better than having to drag his ass away.Mom ain't always going to be there to save her poorly raised son,is she ?

To say that teens who engage in riots deserve a beating is not to say that children who do anything wrong should be. Once they move into felonious behavior it ups the ante.

Or...it could be that she tried to raise her child with reason and logic and that still didn't work. Look at all the liberal protestors on campuses across the nation, presumably raised in the manner you speak. Where's the regard for others' rights when they protest a conservative speaker or want to force someone to honor something that they don't believe in?

Oh and by the way? Just because I'm a Christian doesn't mean I raised my children in the biblical sense. They were raised with a combination of reason and logic and discipline. The discipline also included spanking. Spanking could be one swat or two or five. Spankings up to the time they reached 18 could be counted on one hand. I don't bring your kid into things...how about leaving mine out of things?

slvemike4u -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 10:22:27 AM)

NM,edited due to a glitch,thought one post failed to go through so I rewrote and re-submitted.

Not sure which one read better,but one had to be cut.....hope I chose correctly and left the clearer one.....seems folks often need help understanding things.....lol

slvemike4u -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 10:27:25 AM)

The reference to the bible was a direct result of a post you made in another thread.

If I am in error over that being you I apologize,but I don't think so.

The claim that I brought your children into a post is nothing more than a failure to comprehend what you are reading....so no apology on that score.

Re-read the post, no reference to your children in specificity.When re-reading it try to understand that I was replying to your comments about how this parent handled things....nothing to do with your own personal raising of your children.Try not to personalize everything and please read things in context.

You have a teen and a mob. It really wouldn't matter how you raised him. The lack of consequence thinking (teen) combined with the lack of individual responsibility (mob) equals violent/destructive dumb-assedness.

slvemike4u -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 11:16:52 AM)

I disagree....if you raise them right they aren't part of a mob in the first place.

And the minute they see that the "crowd" protesting (rightly so) is turning into a mob......they beat a hasty retreat.

At least that's what I hope my son would have done in a similar situation.Being that I can't prove something that never came up the best I can do is hope and assume.

But let's take it one step further,lets say my son found himself in that situation and adopts the mob mentality......now since I've raised him right ,the minute I show up and apply my best reasoning to the situation my boy is walking away with me.
There is no need to beat him upside his head.Due to the fact that I have raised him well and he has learned to heed my word on matters of importance beating him never becomes an issue.
I prefer to believe that's the truth of the matter.We will never know because it never happened and truth be told it never will,he's an adult now,wise enough to know when things deteriorate beyond a certain point he no longer belongs there [:D]

JVoV -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 11:25:01 AM)

If she hadn't raised him better than that, she wouldn't have made sure to remind him of that now.

Reminds me of this actually. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aWv7ONZAFN0

Sanity -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 11:51:01 AM)

Shirley, all of the rioters werent raised by wolves, were they?

More seriously, peer pressure and pack mentality can be very powerful influences on teen and young adult behavior, competing very strongly against even some of the best parenting

More than that though, there are leaders in their community telling them, preaching to them, that violent rioting is the answer

Or, two wrongs make a right. That message keeps getting reinforced on every level stronger and louder than any other message, which explains that which so bewildered the OP in the other Baltimore thread

Goes all the way up to the current president and Eric Holder, too

Dont know if it will change much with the new AG, but we shall see

Actually, the post about raising children according to some tenets of the bible was made by bounty ...I believe...not me. While I raised my children according to Christian principles, the ones I deemed most relevant were the ones consistent with today's laws. Don't cheat. Don't steal. Don't hit someone without good reason. Etc, etc, etc. And this is the first post I've made that includes any biblical teaching in reference to my kids.

Also...I've stated that I am a Christian and therefore believe in Christ and God. I just said it again. But if you can find ANY post of Mine where I've said I check the bible st see what to do about something, I'll pay you a hundred bucks.

slvemike4u -> RE: MOM! (4/28/2015 2:03:03 PM)

Okay ,as I said if I was wrong I apologize....I mixed up bounty for you.

Now you go right ahead and apologize for accusing me of bringing your kids into the topic [8|]

Let's see you match me apology for apology....cause you were just as wrong as I was [:)]
