Instead he has since being accused of being a pedophile been budding up to some very famous politicians

Your post answers its own question. Although, I believe there's a little bit of "chicken or the egg" going on. He had some pretty influential friends that helped to keep him out of jail so he could "buddy up" to even more influential friends.

It's not what you know ...

There is one major failure in reporting or editing of this article. It says "The 62-year-old registered sex offender comes from a gritty background in Brooklyn ... " but doesn't give any details. Even if it's a worst case scenario and he repeatedly molested a child, the charges (i.e. second degree endangerment of a child) would still be a matter of public record. Where is that rather important detail?
