There's a lot of things wrong with it... But the spiders aren't one of them. Our political landscape is really, really appalling and Tony Abbot is just an international embarrassment. But I don't want to seem too ungrateful. Australia, despite all its faults is still the lucky country.

Speaking of survival, I actually have a backpacking tip for you while I think of it. I'm not sure if you have a system worked out for your batteries but... I bought a battery case that has two sections to seperate the dead batteries from the full ones. Which was handy and all but one day I realised that I could just put the charged batteries in with the positive "nipple" facing up and then when I had to put a dead one back I'd put it positive end down. It might sound pretty boring. But it was revolutionary for me lol. That way you can keep your charged and flat batteries organised in the same case!

That's handy just around the house :)

I think I'm going to go with solar powered rechargeables.

Next week I'm planning my first bike to the campsite and camp. If I sell my big tent and bulky camp gear this weekend and manage to get the lightweight stuff in on time. It's my first gypsy lifestyle dry run.

Eta I realized I need a better knife. The titanium blade I have just isn't hardy enough.

Titanium blade O.o how does it go being sharpened?
My knife is a "Cold Steel: SRK", there are a lot of reviews of it on YouTube. It's a great knife for the price.
I'd prefer a lighter one, but I haven't found a lighter one I like so far. I had a Gerber before that but it wasn't ideal.
Have you thought of a multi-tool? I have a Leatherman Frestyle CX that I love, it's pretty sexy and lightweight for what you get.
But you ain't going to be chopping wood with it.

Ha! There's that. Except I have no idea how to sharpen a knife honestly.
I want one I can chop down things with. Chop, cut, saw and well julienne too.

Yes. I'm working on being able to ride 30+ a day so that I can bike ride and camp the national forests, see as much of the world as I can peddle to. Although My plan B is to Have an RV to get from one National Forest to the next

I assume you're talking about miles. That's like 60kms right? From memory I've hiked that in 10hours but I was pretty wrecked the next day. 6hours per day is more sustainable. I'm a hiking kinda person myself and actually like jogging on trails over riding.

Your plan(s) sound nice. After you go camping next week post some pics!

For "no skill required" sharpening, there's a little keychain sharpener you can get from Gerber. It weighs nothing and all you do is pull your blade through it repeatedly until it's sharp. It's best for thinner blades though... With some thicker blades, edge profile (the angle that the edge is made from) can become an issue. Especially if it's a lot different than the angle in the sharpener. A slightly more skilful way (but much better), is to buy a few small ceramic sharpening rods. Sharpening stones tend to be too heavy for backpacking in my opinion. Having a sharp knife is a pretty big deal.

I know the guy but never get past the 5 second mark where you can 'skip this ad'. The first thing that annoys me is his voice. He tightens his throat up to add emphasis to certain words. I would rather listed to Gilbert Gottfried reading 50 Shades of Grey.

Further, being a motor-head from Detroit, I am familiar with the Lamborghini's failings... from the weak frame to their earlier models that went faster than the brakes could handle. A 200mph car is no good it the brakes fail after 180mph. So I have no trust in his errant judgement for buying an expensive car that research would have told him was a piece of shit. For the same money, he could have had a real car that goes real fast and doesn't isn't made from cheap parts.

I looked at the link in the replies and saw another he made at a book store. I could only watch a minutes of it before his annoying habit of pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his noise made shut it off. Maybe if he didn't spend all that money on books, he could afford a pair if glasses that fit.

Sooooooooo . . . I dislike his voice, his car and his perpetually pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his noise. Jesus Christ, buy a pair of glasses that fit and get a real car will ya'!

Thanks RS, I thought I was going to be left hanging out there by myself in regards to finding that guy annoying.
I think one of the things I find most annoying about the videos I've seen is, while seemingly being impromptu they actually appear to have been pretty cunningly thought out...

Doesn't everyone read multiple books at the same time?

My favorite book? The one I just finished or am just starting. I've had my kindle for about three years now and probably have downloaded over 2000 books. Lots aren't worth rereading so I delete them off the device to make room for new ones.

In addition to bookbub, try ebookshabit.com. Free and cheap daily amazon kindle offerings. It's not uncommon for a book to be offered free or really cheap for just a few days in order to generate interest and reviews which will hopefully convince others to buy it.

I have bookshelves in every room of the house. I read over 300 words a minute.

I came back to this thread, because I had a yard sale and had placed quite a few books in it. By end of day one I had pulled one of the books out ndecided I wanted to read it again. Day two another book couldn't be parted with. Day three, I'd reclaimed 5. I did sell a box of books. Just not those five. Then it occurred to me had to come bak to this thread and share that. Well, it amused me

I've actually ridden something like that a long time ago. You tend to ride with knees out because the engine is hot as fuck -_-. If it was electric it would be awesome, but since this bike looks to be geared towards survival... An EMP might wreck the battery. You could probably build an electronically hardened version though...

Omg that would be so much fun! I can see how riding would be problematic though. If I could have all the other stuff without the motor though I'd be a happy gal 😍 Except exchange the cross bow for a compound bow or wrist rocket.
