Americans caring about what happens in government is like Americans doing things on Memorial Day.... A tiny few will do something while the majority do other stuff. All the conservatives and especially the libertarians should be happy; they got what they want. Conservatives got a group of people that do nothing useful, so that fuels their outrage that we have bad government (and their the fools that voted for it). Libertarians got their 'Limited Government' since the current Congress has yet to do one useful thing beyond the requirements of office; very limited actions. You want the Patriot Act removed until something bad happens. The 'powers that be' in the upper hierarchy of the GOP/TP will not remove the Patriot Act. All they have to do is manipulate their supporters on the notion that some evil entity is about to attack the United States (yesterday it was Al Qaeda, today its ISIS, tomorrow, who knows), and without those vital laws in place, America is a whole lot more unsafe. Then watch as conservatives and libertarians fall in line and support the Patriot Act..... Its already a hell zone in the red states. Failing education systems, healthcare distributions, poor food quality controls, and their infrastructure is about to collapse out under them. Why would such places be on a terrorist's list of targets? If they had the choice of Bismarck, ND or New York, NY, which would they go for? Yet the manipulators will have conservatives and libertarians believing that the next spot to be hit is Bismarck. And only but supporting the Patriot Act, will disaster be averted. Its Cheney's old thought process: We have this prisoner and he has information that a US City will be blown up by a nuclear weapon in the next five minutes; why wouldn't you torture him? Violate the 8th amendment even thought the likely hood of obtaining real actionable intelligence is totally remote, because the 'Ends justify the means'. The 'Ends Justify the Means' allows someone to ignore the entirety of the US Constitution with flimsy excuses and crappy intelligence information. The Patriot Act was put into law at a time when Americans were fearful of another attack. The Bush administration did two things: A ) If you dont support the bill, and they hit us, it's your fault (no one wanted to be at fault)....and.....B ) "Your either with us or against us", meaning if your against the Patriot Act, your against America! Needlessly to say politicians were afraid of being seen as 'un-American' and went along with things. If any one President and Vice President should have been impeached in the last fifty years, it was George W. Bush and Dick Cheney (an throw Karl Rove to the wolves for good measure).
