focalss -> Friendfinder Hack (5/23/2015 5:34:56 PM)

I read that Friendfinder was hacked and wondered if anyone has heard anything about what the information shows and really, if it shows hardly any women on the site. I read a few people were identified and the information hasn't been taken down.

As for there being hardly any women, I think that's an exaggeration but also I think that's normal for personals sites in general. Few women to many men. I don't have hard facts on this though.

i read this on FL earlier about a similar thing...a scraping tool..might be worth checking out...

Based on what was leaked hardly any women is pretty accurate, I think there are about 10,000 women's id's or self identified females for potentially 400000 to 700000 males. I think they say they have 64 million registered users. That would mean less than 10 percent was disclosed but my guess is that it is a good sample.

You could do the same with profiles on any site. Inactive profiles get counted in the mix. Many people maintain more than one profile, get locked out (forget password), then create a new profile. On this site alone, there could easily be multiple profiles for any given user from year to year carried over or simultaneously maintained (not to mention all the sock puppet accounts some people create, not of their actual gender).

Match is the most unreliable from what I hear and have seen. I know women who have inactive profiles on both Match and eHarmony.

Okcupid is fast to close an account based on very few reports. I'm not sure about Plentyoffish.

GS: Do those stats account for users who are dishonest about their sex (ex, men masquerading as women for predatory purposes) or couples profiles who are forced to choose one or the other?

I don't know how to account for men posing as women on what was leaked but that would only make it skew more to fewer women from what was released. There did seem to be some couples tho.

Is that why whenever someone writes me on okcupid, their profile is gone the next day?

I found that curious.

They don't put up with dudes spamming the ladies with bulk hook-up requests and trying to get women to call them and text them on their cell phones, do IMs and chat requests.
Over on Pof, if any message contains sexual content or a sexual proposition or comes across as pushing for contact, there's a report feature, so I think those guys don't last long either.

The point to those who want specific examples of how these numbers can get skewed, is that if you take 4 vanilla female profiles, presumably real, then take 5 male profiles. If the turnover rate on female profiles remains fairly steady, then you have maybe 3-4 active or semi-active female profiles. But if the guys have to keep closing their accounts and opening new ones, then it will appear there is a drop in male membership at any given time within a cyclical period.

I see one houseboy foot fetishist oral slave who has a new user name every single month with a gap in between of roughly a week. He scares off the women on this site by being in your face with his scantily clad sissy bondage pics. I am not exaggerating. He advertises open houses for interviews and targets married women as well as working-from-home-office professional women.

Back to 5 male profiles. Two accounts get closed within a week or less. Then another one. They don't get counted as active for a full month (or however these counts qualify). If just one of these closed accounts is active by the count date, then it will appear that there were really just 3 males not 5 and that the ratio of females to males is 4:3. Hypothetically, but we both know that Okcupid has a high male profile turnover rate, often before you even get a chance to respond to a message, assuming it didn't get filtered out of your inbox.

I don't see how they could, though okcupid (being mathematically inclined) can tease an awful lot out of their data, for instance: http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/the-biggest-lies-in-online-dating/

However, I would also expect that sissies, cross dressers, poly and such would make up a far smaller percentage of their community and as such would effect the data far less than it does around here.

The biggest factor I would expect to throw things off on the other sites mentioned is abandoned profiles still getting counted in the mix.

Someone mentioned that there were relatively few women on adult friend finder and that doesn't particularly surprise me as I would suspect women in our current culture to be a good deal less likely to seek out blind hookups on the internet. Whereas finding ones life partner would be a different ball game.
