MiaCastle -> Masks and hoods (6/5/2015 12:48:22 PM)

After getting a few emails with pictures, I was reminded of how appealing I thought masks could be, but I was picturing more a costume party type atmosphere or playful entrance. I've never played with anything more than blindfolds which I truly love during some parts of enticement or used as an element of the unknown, but these pictures really have me wondering why I have the response that I do when I see them. I don't like them at all. I'm not quite sure why I have the reaction that I have and am wondering if the distortion of the truth I want to see is blending with criminal actions of masked men. (Joking)

I love picking a mans head up by his hair or chin and looking into his eyes, watching his expressions. I want to read his face, feel what he might be reacting to by the closeness of our faces and all that a person can see and feel in a close enough to feel the heat of their breath kind of way. I feel a negative reaction to the mask on these people sharing pictures with me and the first thing I think of is how distorted the view of them is and for me, I think I wouldn't like it. Gas masks really freak me out.

So if there is anyone here that likes masks or hoods, could you share with me what it is that you enjoy about them? I would like to look at things from other perspectives and all I can see or feel is mine in this. I'm not sure if I have ever read about it and I haven't taken it up with my girlfriends when we get together to share notes on our lives and experiences as dominant women. I will bring it up soon though.

I'd appreciate any input you all have.

Mia

I have a gas mask and a hood that I sometimes use on my slave. With either one, and especially the hood (which has eye holes) I like to put her in front of a mirror before the scene starts. She's told me that seeing a faceless version of herself makes her feel more objectified and less human. There's this feeling that something without a face doesn't deserve sympathy, which plays well into darker scenes. I don't wear a mask myself very often but doing so has a similar feel - you can't expect sympathy from a faceless person.

I imagine that other masks such as masquerade ball style masks could have the opposite effect. The eyes are framed by the mask and draw extra attention. Combining this with dilated pupils (a natural reaction when looking at something you want) can be potent.

Coupleator -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/6/2015 5:15:38 PM)

Always balance claustrophobia with coverage.

fetishandpain -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/7/2015 2:00:06 AM)

Depends on what people enjoy, I enjoy the restrition of a gas mask, I like the faceless as said before and also if the masd covers all the face the not seeing...

MiaCastle -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/7/2015 6:56:48 PM)

Thank you. Each of your answers gives me something to think upon. I'm still freaked out about it, maybe because I don't like my face or head covered. I guess I need to think of how my partner would feel and their enjoyment. That tends to open my mind to new things. Even if I don't get my exact pleasure in the moment, knowing that I am spurring something in him might inspire me and in that I would find enjoyment.

MercTech -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/8/2015 4:23:18 PM)

Masks yes
Gas Masks NO

I have to wear gas masks too much for work to consider them for playtime. Respirators get me in a totally different mindset than you want for playtime.

I will admit, if you are into PVC, Latex, etc; the Powered Air Purifying Delta Suit that Bruce Willis is wearing in the first scenes of "12 Monkeys" would be a good choice.

And, if you get someone into an airline fed suit; you can do "instant bondage" by upping the air pressure locking both arms and legs straight out. No one would ever toss a stink bomb into someone's suit while closing them in then raise the pressure from 45psi to a "Michelin Man" 125psi so they can't do anything about it. No one would play that cruel of a practical joke. (looking and ceiling and whistling)

sweetieDA -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/9/2015 9:54:09 AM)

I like the feeling of enclosure and separation I feel. I am locked in my own darkness and cannot see anyone, and those looking at me can only see a depersonalised body, with no facial expressions. It's very objectifying, and the sensory deprivation is interesting.

MiaCastle -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/9/2015 11:29:51 AM)

Thank you for your input MercTech! Those suits would be wild. Not for me, but I can imagine from things I am picking up from the thread and elsewhere, how someone might enjoy those.

MiaCastle -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/9/2015 11:36:55 AM)

Thank you to everyone that has posted. I'm learning something new here besides the fact that I need to view this from the submissive side and what the experience means. Stepping away from my own response to it, which would be violent if someone tried to put me in that situation, I have negated how it would feel and what it might offer a submissive.

I appreciate your sharing with me.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/9/2015 9:48:44 PM)

I don't like masks but my reasons are kind of complex.

First off there is the fact that I like looking at pretty slave girls faces, but that isn't the reason I dislike masks.

A mask lets you pretend you are somebody else. I find it rather important that a slave girl knows that she is there to be herself and to serve. A gag tells her (and let's face it gags are pretty) that she is not allowed to speak. Unless you are particularly harsh a gag won't prevent her from speaking, merely remind her that she isn't allowed. Cuffs and ropes most of the time just remind her that her movement is to be limited. A mask lets her be someone else.

She isn't your slave serving you right then and there, she is some construct in her mind that is serving you.

Please do not think I am denigrating anyone else, this is simply how I feel and why I won't let my girls wear masks. Some of those masks are quite pretty, they simply don't belong on one of my girls.

As always what you want to do with your slaves is totally up to you.

My [sm=2cents.gif] is that I will use a blindfold eye mask or tie a scarf for short intervals, but hooded head masks? Out of the question. I hate those black leather zippered jobs and think they're ugly. Gimpiness turns me off, and so does my perception of a man trying to conceal his identity from me, or me from him. This doesn't reinforce trust or intimacy between us. (Plus gas masks are SO-oo unsexy!)

I, too, like to see my partner's face and his facial expressions, the look in his eyes. And I want him to be gazing upon me attentively.

DreamLady

Edit - There's a reason for people doing BDSM porn to want to hide their identities, or those doing public play. Real life one-on-one isn't a porn shoot, and this is where many who fetishize hoods have gotten these images burned into their brains.

MistressRage -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/10/2015 1:08:33 PM)

Hi Mia

When a guy has a good on, the depersonalization can be fun especially for humiliation sessions. Also, it makes a great way to easily restrict their senses.

Thank gawd, a sub who isn't into wearing hoods! Most of them want the sensory deprivation, and get into mummy bags or being left restrained and/or confined for long periods of time or overnight. If I wanted to put my sub out of commission, then I might as well be babysitting a kid. [:-]

Snitch -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/14/2015 10:21:14 AM)

Why cover the most sexual part of the human body?

crwlon4 -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/17/2015 7:21:39 PM)

I like them because it gives me a totally different mindset. I tend to think "inward" instead of "outward". Cutting off those senses makes everything else so wickedly intense and the anticipation is greatly heightened because I can't tell whats coming next. Variety is the spice of life though, so I certainly wouldn't like wearing them all the time.

Wow, thanks for the epiphany. One of my bottoms likes to be extremely bound (including toes), and part of this includes the leather hood that laces up in the back and buckles. I've been trying to understand his headspace but he's not good at explaining and I've never walked in his shoes.

For me it's just been part of the required foreplay, so to speak, before I can start giving him welts on top of welts and enjoy the beautiful patterns of blood.

Me too. It's not my kink so I have a different association with masks than others do. My knee jerk reaction to a pic of someone in a hood/mask/gas mask is...that I am being threatened, lol. Adrenaline and other nasty stuff plows through my brain and I want to throw up. (Yes, I'm laughing at myself really hard right now because I think my reaction is ridiculous at a BDSM site, and yes, I'm working on desensitizing myself to this trigger. Note that he is tied up BEFORE I put his hood on, lol.)

Especially that subspacy blissful floaty look. I feel really handicapped as far as reading someone is concerned when they're wearing a mask/hood/etc. I prefer a blindfold, as I can read their forehead, brows and below the blindfold facial expressions. (If the guy didn't have 30 years' experience, I wouldn't be part of a scene that involved a hood because I'm paranoid about safeties.)

So if there is anyone here that likes masks or hoods, could you share with me what it is that you enjoy about them?

Keep in mind that I can like and dislike something at the same time. I already explained why I dislike them, so... I like them because it's making me more comfortable with them, enabling me to disable some of my panic attack triggers...AND I love the feel of the leather, lacing him into it, and buckling it down. I'm going to write down what WellShinedBoots said, so I don't forget this epiphany. Yes, I'm into a bit of objectification and never saw a mask as a way to do that.

I haven't been able to "get it" about hoods/masks for twelve years because...if for some strange reason I decided to try bottoming...if someone put me into a hood that laced up the back...I would be triggered so badly I'd go feral.

When I'd react so badly if the shoe were on the other foot, it's hard for me to understand why it's a fetish to others. (I'm starting to understand, finally, yay!)

Thank you for starting this thread. [sm=cute.gif]

And thanks to WellShinedBoots.

Andalusite -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/20/2015 1:58:52 PM)

I haven't tried masks so far, but I adore hoods. I admit they don't usually look very appealing, though some have interesting detailing. I like the sensory deprivation a bit, it's kinda peaceful and meditative. The sensory overload when the hood comes off is just amazing, though! Often, just 5-10 min in the hood while they're getting things set up is enough to be a good warmup, when it comes off, and my pain tolerance and mindset are much better. I don't consider it a requirement, of course, and have done plenty of scenes without it.

CynthiaWV, I can understand and respect that hoods make you feel claustrophobic. As a switch, there are a lot of things I enjoy having done to me that I don't enjoy doing, or vice versa. You don't have any obligation to bottom to something even if you enjoy topping with it.

MiaCastle -> RE: Masks and hoods (6/23/2015 4:37:21 PM)

I wasn't sure what I would hear when I posted, but it has been enlightening. Thank you to everyone that responded. Besides some enlightenment, there were even some laughs.

The masked robber and claustrophobia problems could still freak me, but I may try something new after this. It won't be me with the mask on. I should do fine. lol
