We can sometimes ask the dumbest questions and the question itself is of no real importance. Even less important is the answer that we are waiting to hear. Instead it is the journey of seeking the answer that is of the true importance. "What face did you ware before you were waring this one?", such is known as a Koan. I would suggest the following article and perhaps it would give you some insight to what your master is expecting of you rather than to suggest the answer to the question he is asking.
