Personally, I disagree with the whole tipping concept as commonly implemented. The idea should be, to encourage those in a position of serving to provide good service, correct? But in reality, how well does it actually work out that way? The reality is, that it creates a class of workers who have a lower minimum wage, which then have to work all the harder to earn enough in tips to make up for the difference, when there's no guarantee that their customers will even tip them appropriately or for the right reasons, anyhow.
IMO, tipping should be optional. The level of service provided should simply be expected from the start, and pay rates accordingly--same minimum wage as everyone else. If someone working in a service position fails to meet the expected level of service over and over, you fire them, like you would any other industry. Any tipping should be only for those who give exceptional service, above and beyond.. and should be allowed in most industries (excluding times where it might be construed as a bribe, or course..) From what others tell me of other countries, that's far more common than "tips". And they love serving Americans, because we're so used to giving them tips.. they feel it's like getting free money from us.. O.o
But anyhow, that said.. I always try to tip based on what I felt the service was worth. I start at 15% as the baseline, and move up or down a few percent according to service level (or lack of).. But I can imagine that yeah, girls with big boobs might get tipped more often and better, simply because, well.. them things kina stand out, and make customers more.. aware of the server..
Makes me wonder if I were to do a study at some place, and have all the service staff wear stuffed raccoons on their heads.. would it affect their average tips for the day? Hrmm.. Now to find a restaurant willing to make their staff wear stuffed raccoons..
