Even a Democrat is right, twice a year (some years)

quote:

House rejects Obama's appeals and imperils his trade bill

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Led by union-backed Democrats, the House delivered a stinging blow to President Barack Obama on Friday and left his ambitious global trade agenda in serious doubt.

Republican leaders, who generally support Obama's trade objectives, signaled they might try to revive the package as early as next week. But that could require the shifting of at least 90 votes within either or both parties, a heavy lift.

Friday's setback was deep and personal for Obama, who made a surprise, last-minute trip to the Capitol to ask House Democrats to back him.

Not only did they reject him by the dozens, they were led by party leader Nancy Pelosi of California, who has often expressed deep admiration for the president. She joined in a tactic that even some Democrats called devious and cynical: voting against a favorite job-retraining program in order to imperil the trade package's main component: "fast track" negotiating authority for Obama...

It's a scary thing for democrats...no not the legislation. Explaining your vote to constituents. Do you go all Elisabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders failed Marxist politics or do you try and work for the country and get people back to work? It has huge implications for Hillary. She may have to take a position and alienate her base. Since she really never has held a position that would be based on a moral or ethical belief, she's always acted for her best political position, it's going to be an interesting thing to watch. I'm sure Nancy and Harry will be point people on spin for her, but what if she's actually confronted by a newspaper reporter before they can run it through market testing? My God, just think of the political ramifications.

One thing is curious though. When the Tea Party exploded on the scene in 2010, the media was all day every day discussing party breakdown and predicting the end of the GOP as a power for ever more. I don't see that sort of thing while the shoe now appears on the other foot.

Since there are no failed Marxist politics involved, I will surmise the rest of your blather is asswipe. Its not scary at all. Thats a typical emotional hysteria based propaganda for rightwingers. Yup, I am right, pure unadulterated imbecilic horseshit.

The only ones gargling their cocks and shitting their pants are the feeble minded right. They have been caught in the garish light of day as free market communists and corporate catamites.

Imagine the headline, had she been a Republican - "Cold hearted multimillionaire stops jobs program for the poor"

"Racist hatred for Obama a key reason"

Probably not, since the idea of dropping this plan is to keep American Jobs. If the rabid rightwing free market communists would have passed this bill. Then you would see those headlines.

I'm not sure. You know how she uses her "Black" voice when she talks to predominately African Americans. Do you really think they would have used the racist hatred card on her?

Money in politics again

quote:

Labor unions, those well-funded foundations of all that is good for the Democratic Party, absolutely hate the trade deals. Unions have promised to spend cash, lots of it, to take out any Democrat who supports Friday's vote.

I want to know just how this happened ? The soon-to-be right wing political scientists are scratching their heads over their ponderously analytically doctoral thesis...in strange momentary tatters.

The repubs have a majority last I looked and aren't they the party of maximized profits, the essential and primary goal of these trade agreements and their 'fast-track' (non-negotiable, now apparently negotiable) requirement ?

Did somebody spike the water on capital hill or is this just more...anti-Obama-ism syndrome ?

I think it is more based upon NAFTA which took tons of American Jobs and exported them to other countries.

You'll have to read the tomes when it's all done. I've just been watching the consternation and enjoying it. Yes, actually, watching Obama get caught in his lies that it was all Bush's fault and the Partisan conservatives. I do enjoy him being seen for the fool that was foisted on the public for the last several years. I do enjoy seeing his heir apparent unable to talk in fear of taking a position. I do enjoy seeing the lefty media just not knowing who to back now. You tell me how it happened? You speak instead of denigrate what others say.

I am completely serious when I ask this....

What is a "free market communist"?... It sounds oxymoronic! A free market fascist would make sense, perhaps.... But a free market communist?

The sad thing is the number of Americans that took sides in a 'debate' they had no knowledge or concept on or of.....

Lets just 'discussion' the petty politics and attacking the other guy's people. Make shit up. Its not like the trade deal was all that important for the country.....

President Obama tried for a compromised that didnt work for either major party. The piles of disinformation and the President's last minute berating of Democrats didn't seem to help. Even the Speaker of the House could not rally his party to a positive conclusion.

What was decided? For China to own the Pacific economic trade and politics for the next decade.....

I recall a time when regardless of party or political ideology, one did not publically....FUCK AROUND....on foreign policy matters. That things were mature, intelligent, and precise. The annoyances and disputes were held behind closed doors. How low this nation has sunk from its previous years....

Time to watch all the 'spin' from both parties as they get ready for the next election year. Once upon a time, people would go vote for many reasons. Now we need them 'foaming at the mouth pissed off' just to get a handful motivated.

Not one of our better moments as a nation : /

Yes, it's GOP obstruction at it's worst!

House Party Makeup: 246 R; 188 D

The TAA Bill failed 126-302. According to The Atlantic, 40 D's voted for the bill (and 86 R's). That means that, roughly, 34.9% of R's supported the bill, and 21.3% of D's supported the TAA. Btw, the TAA was described in that same article as:
    quote:

...a program designed to help workers displaced by trade and one which Democrats—and organized labor—have overwhelmingly supported in the past.
    [Bold mine]

The TPA bill passed 219-211, though I'm having some difficulty finding the party breakdown on that.

Technically, the TAA bill needs 218 votes in favor to pass. With 86 R's in favor, only 132 D's would be needed to vote in favor for the bill to pass. Holding 188 seats in the House, you can't simply blame Republicans for the bill not passing. Article describe the TPA and TAA as being linked together, with the TAA being what the D's get in return for support of the TPA, and the TAA being what Republicans trade for Democrat support of the TPA. So, the part of the Trade Bill that is more Democrat-supported was the part that didn't pass, and that had to do with Democrats not supporting moreso than the GOP not supporting it.

But, do go on with your GOP-blaming...

You cant do a TPA without the TAA, so you can vote for free trade communism(to calm the feeble minded), but make sure it doesnt happen because it is disasterous (for those who have some actual knowledge of these things).

This will explain the slow undoing of America....and before you hysterically and emotionally cry out 'Benghazi', or 'socialism', or 'leftist'....read this, you 'conservatives' and 'republicans', learning why I am a conservative and a republican, and you are not:

I called it yesterday.

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/06/obama-trade-vote-labor-victory-118946.html?hp=l1_3_b1

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said, “We want a better deal for America’s workers.” For many House Democrats, the prospect of returning home to discuss it with constituents, she said, was like “putting your hand on a hot stove.”
