"Independent UN investigators find that Israel and Palestinian groups committed serious abuses during 2014 conflict"

I purposely used the Aljazeera report of the story in hopes that some of the ..."only Israel commits war crimes crowd" would find it more believable.

For the last year all we have heard on these boards is a one sided view of the conflict now there is independent proof that there are no innocents in this conflict.

I am pretty sure that the UN thinks that making frowny faces at the enemy is a war crime.

I don't have any issue with the allegation that Hamas commits a war crime every time they send an unguided missile into Israel. I have stated this many times on these boards. The issue I have found here on these boards is that some are unable to accept that both sides commit war crimes. Usually these people fall into the 'Israel can do no wrong" camp.

If it makes you any happier butch, I'll say it again for you: Hamas commits reprehensible war crimes when it fires unguided missiles into Israel. The people who order and carry out these crimes should be given a fair trial and, if and when they're found guilty, receive severe sentences.

The same goes for Israel. The slaughter of civilians and the deliberate wanton destruction of civilian property and facilities (eg homes schools hospitals) that we all saw in the last Israeli onslaught on Gaza, and the one before that too, are war crimes. The people who order and carry out these crimes should be given a fair trial and, if and when they're found guilty, receive severe sentences.

It looks like both Israel and Hamas will both have a chance to answer these charges at the ICC in the future. It can't come soon enough for me.

"[On Thursay morning,] the Palestinian foreign minister, Riyad al-Maliki, will arrive with a delegation at the office of the prosecutor of the international criminal court in The Hague. In an unassuming modern suite of offices in the ICC’s white tower block, he will hand over a file running to hundreds of pages. Those documents describe to prosecutors for the first time in detail the Palestinian complaint against Israel for alleged breaches of international law, including serious war crimes.

In doing so al-Maliki will set in motion a chain of events that could eventually see senior Israeli military and political officials indicted for breaches of international law.

The presentation of the Palestinian submission to the ICC will be given added impetus as it follows hard on the heels of the UN Human Rights Council’s report on last summer’s war in Gaza on Monday, which accused both Israel and Hamas of potential war crimes and called for those responsible to be “brought to justice”.

Previewing the contents of the submission last week, Palestinian official Ammar Hijazi said it would detail alleged violations of international law by Israel and the Israel Defence Forces.
[....]
One section of the complaint will focus on issues relating to illegal Israeli settlement activity; another the treatment of Palestinian prisoners. A final section deals with last summer’s war in Gaza."

tweak

Many times over the few years we have discussed this issue I have tried to get you to understand that both side are EQUALLY at fault in this human tragedy. I do understand that the equality in fault does not equate with the resulting death and destruction brought to the Palestinian people from a US back Israel.

My beef with you has always been your insistence that the onus is exclusively on Israel to make concessions for peace. There will never be peace until both sides compromise. There is no such thing as a BAD Israel and GOOD Palestinians. Both are still willing to sacrifice the lives of their people for what!!! Hell I don't know.

You may not have heard about it but there was a very nice gesture by the Israeli President Rivlin a few days ago. He took down the Israeli flag fllying at the Presidential Palace, acknowledging that many bad things had happened to Palestinians under its auspices. Rivlin said:
"“When Palestinians see that flag they see the symbol painted on tanks and fighter planes that caused such incredible suffering to their families and community,” Rivlin said. “On matters of oppression, Israel has had a tough history; we all know that. Many of us have seen it in our lives, in the lives of our parents and grandparents. We don’t need reminders. It is time for the flag to come down and go into a museum.” - See more at: http://mondoweiss.net/2015/06/israeli-president-removal?utm_source=Mondoweiss+List&utm_campaign=f908bc6d6f-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b86bace129-f908bc6d6f-387294778#sthash.W6NBFIjE.dpuf
This struck me as a brave and noble act in a region where there are far too few noble acts. Sadly the gesture was greeted with "derision and anger" in Israel.
