MasterJaguar01 -> Rand Paul's Tax Plan (6/27/2015 6:51:59 PM)

This is the best version the flat tax I have ever seen:

https://randpaul.com/issue/taxes

1) Reasonable rate (14.5%).
2) Eliminates the regressiveness of a flat tax by exempting the first $50k of income
3) Eliminates FICA (SS &medicare) payroll taxes - which hit those at the bottom the most
4) Eliminates all corporate loopholes and subsidies (e.g. Big Oil, Big Agriculture)
5) Keep mortgage and chairtable deductions

Not sure the numbers work, but if they do, this is thee best plan Ihave ever seen.

Go Rand Paul!

(Now if he could JUST understand ckimate science, and a bit more of how the healthcare system works, and stop buying into right-wing conspiracy theories, he'd be tthe PERFECT candidate.!)

Owner59 -> RE: Rand Paul's Tax Plan (6/27/2015 7:01:29 PM)

His novelty has worn off.

His views on the civil rights act and the cutesy way he handled the vaccine issue makes any other thing he comes up with suspect.

Unless we raise rates on the one percent, we will always come up short.

Mr Sander`s 50% tax plan is completely unrealistic though.

He does say a lot of incrediblyy stupid things, but he also has some good ideas (e.g. taxes and foreign policy)

Stupid things and all, I haven't actually heard anything better (vis-a-vis policy) from ANY of the other candidtaes (of either party)

I'd much rather see the mortgage deduction also being eliminated, leaving no deductions but for charitable donations. Without Medicare and SS taxes, though, I'm not sure how those continue to be funded without huge deficits. Obviously, there will have to be spending cuts, but where those cuts come from, and how deep they are, will have to be looked at, too.

I have long been a proponent of a consumption tax (essentially what this is). Paul's plan is not a bad one but the numbers don't work. Every estimate I've seen says 17% has to be the rate.

I would also exclude the first $70,000 instead of $50,000 (because of single parent households).

A place to make cuts? Easy: Foreign aide. Let's get our own house in order before we decide to be "generous" with other peoples' (borrowed) money.

could you please watch this, and when presented with the facts, perhaps change your view?

unless maybe its not about fiscal soundness but rather class warfare?

KenDckey -> RE: Rand Paul's Tax Plan (6/28/2015 5:51:46 AM)

Whatever percentage, I do agree with the concept of a flat tax. However, I am more in favor of no deductions. Just take it from the payroll. Eliminate sales/consumption tax, and fund all levels of government. That way you will know how much money you have and how much eveything costs without trying to factor in taxes.

bounty44 -> RE: Rand Paul's Tax Plan (6/28/2015 6:33:47 AM)

one of the many things I like about rand paul is his stated hopes for reducing the size of government.

KenDckey -> RE: Rand Paul's Tax Plan (6/28/2015 6:37:45 AM)

Yeah I personally belive that government is way to large with way to many redundant activities.

Why should people who mortgage a home get a tax credit? If we're going to get rid of loopholes, let's get rid of loopholes. I would prefer only charitable donations having tax credit status.

Yikes... I hope the mortgage deduction is never eliminated.

Sure, save your loophole, but fuck everyone else's. [8D]

Owner59 -> RE: Rand Paul's Tax Plan (6/28/2015 9:57:30 AM)

Has "rand" purposed anything real or affective in reducing spending?

Real as in real money as in the trillions we spend and waste on pork military spending? Just a few % of that budget would lower taxes across the board.

Real as in ending subsidizing corporate America to the tune of trillions of tax dollars?

Hey republicans.......that`s socialism don`t ya know......Like they do in China.

Ending subsidies and making the multinational corporate businesses pay the taxes the owe on the money they earned (like every other American) would pay our debts, fund Social Security indefinitely and save the whales.

Switching the numbers about a bit is just more libertarian bull shit.

Knowing Rand Paul, I think he would be right on top of ending pork military spending, AND ending coporate subsidies.

And what sucks is.....

DS is right.... The mortgage deduction is a tax deduction to encourage home ownership.

Rand Paul is all about stopping using the tax code to influence behavior, or support someone's olitical agenda, or worse their lobbyist buddy's interest.

DAMN!!! I hate whenn DS is right.

Take a number. Plenty of people here that hate that. lol

And, just to point out, the charitable giving credit, is also using the tax code to influence behavior. I'm perfectly happy with influencing behavior towards their choosing to help their fellow Man.

Sadly, he's not his father. Every budget he's put out increases spending on Defense.

It's really too bad you don't read for comprehension, but skim for what you want to read, or think you already know.

mnottertail -> RE: Rand Paul's Tax Plan (6/28/2015 2:43:26 PM)

So how would SS and Medicare be funded?

KenDckey -> RE: Rand Paul's Tax Plan (6/28/2015 2:57:04 PM)

Otter

Probably with a program code like most other things in the budget.

Owner59 -> RE: Rand Paul's Tax Plan (6/28/2015 3:01:46 PM)

It`s not realistic that "stopping" using the tax code to encourage/discourage behavior will change jack shit.

"rand" or his ilk really don`t care if home ownership is good for Americans or makes us more secure. Dummies like him can`t even show us what the negatives are.

He`s just against it because it`s a government program and to that 3nd grader, the "government" ie. the laws we`ve made for ourselves can only be wrong.

Rand "learning curve" paul is at heart, a dishonest anti intellectual and embarrassment.

That POS would even let our seniors suffer in order to follow his anti-government tripe.
