Wonder if they should tear down the great wall of china or the roman wall in germany because they were built by slaves.

The Great Wall of China, the Roman Wall in Germany (I admit I've never heard of this), and the Pyramids of Egypt are not in the US (it's kinda in the names, even), so all the people in the US that want to eradicate all vestiges and symbols of past US racism have absolutely no authority to tear them down.

Now, if an Egyptian was to get on here and rail at us for maintaining symbols of past racism, there'd be a different discussion going on.

joether -> RE: Tolerance (7/3/2015 11:04:17 AM)

There is tolerance and then there is being politically correct. They are different concepts often times. Right now, they seem one and the same, because the Confederacy Battle Flag is the object of scorn by the American population. Its a symbol that brought destruction, sorrow, pain, and evil to this nation. It enslaved a whole pile of people, and then tried to justify it using religion and economics in a nation of free individuals.

To bad you cant hold the opposite understanding to the same level of accountability and responsibility as you are blasting tolerant people.....

Yeah 'desecration' for political liberal purposes right? Should check out your own article there....

"The couple were originally buried in Elmwood Cemetery, but their remains were moved to the park in 1904 when the statue was erected.

Does look like they were desecrated back in 1904 for political purposes. Curious how you have no problem with that....

Before 'the war' Forrest made his wealth from both the slave trade, and forcing those slaves to work making him cotton. Later after the war, he started an organization of hatred....

Again, were is your tolerance level set to, again?

It seems your 'OK' with someone being in-human towards their fellow man and a traitor to the nation; but if someone dislikes were this person is buried, its more 'wrong' than that.....

Rename military installations because these great generals supported the south.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/24/politics/confederate-army-bases-names/index.html

Would you support naming a US Military Base: Osama bin Laden? Saddam Hussein? Adolf Hitler?

Or those not 'American' enough? How about Timothy McVeigh? Terry Nicholas?

These people took up arms AGAINST the United States of America. They were US military officers whom took up arms against their nation for political and financial gain. If the South had actually won, would these men been given fame and fortune for their effects? Fuck yeah! hence, there motivation for 'political and financial gain'.

Its really sad your making this argument here. Many of the commanders of the Southern Armies were well respected individuals. Gen. Robert E. Lee could have been one of the best military generals of US History, maybe even a US President! But he got corrupted by political motivations and joined the wrong side in the conflict. That he is regarded as an American and what he did during his life, minus the acknowledging of the bad stuff, is what he is known in history. Many people on both sides of 'the line' still regard him in good terms.

So dont drag this bullshit. Perhaps its time to rename those military bases and give 'em a fresh coat of paint. The locals will still call it by the original name even if the US military or government does not.

Tell me, how often does conservative websites and information databases fully give credit to President Obama's accomplishments?

Verses piling on any and all of his failures?

Go right ahead and try to bullshit me.....

If its 'OK' for conservatives to attack liberal views and causes; its 'OK' for liberals to do the same right back. That's not being tolerant, that's about being petty. A word that is considered a virtue by 'modern day' conservatives. That's what your entire argument is when it comes right down to it: trying to justify being petty.

And history shows each of these groups got heavy doses of punishment in many ways and many years after the Civil War ended. The federal government went after each of them for what they did too. Not that your aware of that because of 'lack of reading' in the US History section of your local library....

In this nation, people use that symbol for hatred, intimidation, violence. Are these words you associate in a good way with 'The United States of America', being that your a US Citizen?

Yes, that 'We the People' TOLERATE these individuals just barely is something your not noting. An hence, being dishonest about. There have been....MANY....Klan rallies. Each of them are allowed to march and make public speeches. Do people that disagree with them....ALSO....have a right to make public speeches against them?

Wait a second. Did I read that right? Did a political conservative just say 'guns' are a 'privilege'? Sorry, but I have to poke fun at that one. To conservatives, having guns is more a 'God Given Right' then breathing air or drinking water!

Seriously now....

What does firearms have to do with the rest of this thread?

Tolerance is a two way street. Frankly, conservatives have been much more intolerant towards everyone for the past decade. That people are getting tired of this shit, maybe why they are feeling so much 'heat' now. If your not tolerant towards others, why should they give you the same in return?

The problem there is that we are in the midst of the non-violent ethnic cleansing of white male culture. Amazon won't sell confederate battle flags but they will sell swastikas. They sell Che and Mao T-shirts anyone see a problem here?

Yeah, that 'white male culture' which has been in dominance for years if not decades is no longer the case. All those times individuals pushed around other people are now getting the same in return. If it was 'ok' to do it towards people, its 'ok' for it to be done right back!

Amazon is making a business decision. Whether I agree with it or not, they have made the decision. You are free none the less to do business with them or not.

But not acknowledging how male males have dominated, nor admitting how they dominated, is simply ignoring reality. I'm a bit surprise you have not thought on this, with many of your 'rants' towards the US Government. A white male, feeling powerful and controlling of others, being held to no accountability or responsibility, whom then goes and performs criminal and/or unethical actions/words that bring pain, suffering, and sorrow onto groups of people; and this is not wrong? Because that is the metaphor for what you complain the US Government does towards the US Citizens. If its not 'OK' for the US Government to do it (per your viewpoints), why should it be 'OK' for the individual to do the same?

Or for the individual to be abusive or causing pain/suffering towards the United States (i.e. Oklahoma City Bombing).

I realize that these concepts will be beyond you but the generation of white male this equalizing discrimination is aimed at is the same generation that put an end to discrimination by white males (liberal mythology to the contrary) so it is literally biting the hand that feeds you. Also the idea that because earlier (mostly dead) discriminated their descendants can be justly discriminated against means that you want to fulfill the predictions of those bigots. You want to make them right?

As far as McVeigh, how dare you pretend that I have said anything remotely favorable about that monster?

It's not in these forums, that's for sure.

I once asked someone: "can you direct me to the political section of CollarMe, please?" She replied: "you mean the Night of The Long Knives?". So I said: "well, I suppose you could call it that but I haven't got time to split hairs and just need pointing in the right direction" and she said: "I would but I can't because it's too dangerous". And, I said: "forget it, fat lot of use you have been".

The other thing, Kaliko, is that tolerance is something that is in your heart. No appeal to concepts of rights can give you tolerance. It's an empathy issue, as opposed to a philosophical conclusion.

Actually, compared to some forums out there, the political section here is rather tame. That is to say, most of the regulars here seem relatively "sane" for the most part, at least enough that they could probably be in the same room and not want to kill each other.

But some stuff out there is utter insanity.

I know, I know, just a weak attempt at humour on my part. A bit bored and thought I might have a spot of fun with Kaliko.

I agree, genuinely, it is cordial for the most part.
