Freed from the lost causes of marriage bigotry and repealing the ACA, what's next for the Republicans?

Railing against immigrants: check

Asian Trade deal: check

Railing against gov't and taxes: check

What else? Anything new? Anything half-way helpful or positive for the country?

What impact will the failed fiscal policies in Kansas and Louisiana have on Republican Presidential candidates?

Owner59 -> RE: Lost Causes (6/29/2015 9:29:30 AM)

Oh they`re claiming Brownbackistan doesn`t exist......

Or that the school closings and mounting state debt are in fact, success stories......[:D]

And there`s a ready army of dolts who`ll believe that.....

mnottertail -> RE: Lost Causes (6/29/2015 10:16:15 AM)

No impact. They will not be elected regardless.

what makes you think they are over their fight with the ACA?

and at least here in TX, they arent done with the marriage bigotry thing either.. Imo, if you are a county clerk and you have "religious objections" to marrying gay people, then find a different job!

Maybe a new theme song. [;)]

'Cause I love the long shots
And the left out lost causes
Hanging out in the back of the pack with the dark horses
I ride the wrong road just as fast as I can
God knows there's no one else to blame
Sometimes I think I get off on the pain

There is something about lost causes that just contine to attract people. Just one example - Political Correctness.

Under that philosophy, if something offends, then it must be wrong and therefore destroyed.

I know a guy that is offended by computers. Seems it is to easy for big bro to use it's information against us.

I know a guy that is offended by the amount of methane in the air - specifically that produced by cows.

I know a guy that is offended by eating meat.

In all 3 cases, those that are offended want to do away with what they are offended by because they are offended and that is politically correct.

I like lost causes too, although a lot of it depends on what the cause is for, along with what (or who) a cause is against.

In fact, people can say offensive stuff all the time and be protected by the First Amendment. They can't go to jail for it, and they certainly can't be "destroyed." There might be other consequences, depending on the circumstances - and there are situations where PC might go a bit overboard. I agree that some tweaking might be in order; perhaps it could be toned down a bit to a more reasonable level.

But what would the actual "cause" be? Freedom of speech? We already have that. It may need some fine tuning, but I don't think it's reached the point of a lost cause yet.

Yeah, I know a guy like that, too. That is truly a lost cause, as it appears that computers are here to stay, at least for however long civilization lasts.

I'm not sure if that's political correctness or if it's environmentalism. Some might say that environmentalism is a lost cause, although it's not one the GOP would readily take on. Even Democrats are somewhat hampered in terms of how far they can actually go, which can frustrate some of the more staunch environmentalists.

I'm not sure if that would be an example of political correctness, either. But they can have my western bacon double cheeseburger when they can pry it from my cold, dead hands. I'll get behind that cause, and I don't care if anyone says it's politically incorrect.

Gary Cooper, Vera Cruz, lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for.

Well, some shit the Republicans are up to is HARD TO BELIEVE.

THE DARK MONEY AGENDA

• In votes earlier this month, the House Appropriations Committee’s Republican majority quietly inserted an amendment in a spending bill that would block the Securities and Exchange Commission from crafting a rule requiring public companies to open up to their stockholders and voters about their political spending.

• Another amendment would stop the Internal Revenue Service from issuing an overdue rule reining in “social welfare” organizations that do not have to disclose donors under current I.R.S. rules and are increasingly misused as big-money conduits for partisan political activity. A third would protect government contractors from disclosing who they’re showering with money.

• Let's not forget eliminating the Estate Tax.

-- THE ACA is out of reach except as a Presidential issue. By 2016 the ACA might not even fire up much opposition.

-- The Marriage business is CLOSED.

Damn Texans. Why don't they do what they're told? I bet they still have those abortion clinics closed, what is wrong with them?

You gotta love em.

I do. Am I the only one? It don't matter cause they are Texas.

Arturas -> RE: Lost Causes (6/30/2015 12:16:38 AM)

OH shit! What is going on here in the South? Alabama is kinda reviewing the ruling and might be for awhile. Meanwhile, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama decided what they will do; "Now that there likely will be more same-sex marriages, there may be increased insurance costs, said Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama spokeswoman Koko Mackin."

Oh shit! Welcome to marriage, suckers.

You need to rethink. The GOP does not want to kill the ACA before the penalties Obama delayed until after the election starts, who wants to save the DNC from that shit storm? Not a single member of the GOP, me included, wanted the ACA to suddenly be killed by something the GOP does but rather it should be killed by a bunch of voters getting hit with penalties for not buying insurance. You reap what you sow, you know.
Marriage bigotry? What the fuck does that actually mean?

dangercap -> RE: Lost Causes (6/30/2015 1:40:39 AM)

You are an idiot of the highest order. Robber Barron money has, for more than one hundred years, been used to move this country progressively left.

Yeah the 'free state' of Texas, where one can buy a gun to murder people amass without any background checks or even testing to see if the person is mentally/emotionally stable. A state that countines to be in a dead tie with Arizona and Florida for the title 'Dumbest State in America" as far as its politicians are concern. One that feels its 'ok' to harass, beat, and even kill GLBTs, but do anything and everything to drag their feet on the recent Supreme Court ruling on marriage.

After awhile your either intelligent enough to see through the bullshit for what it is, or your so stupid you follow along like a good, obedient, mindless minions.

Actually, we are a Democratic Republic. We elect our officials in general elections, whom in turn handle both the 'day-to-day' issues and long term problems. In many town hall meetings in the Northeast, Democracy is often used to determine a set of decisions (they are also about six hours long and hellishly boring for most people). And that has been the process since before the United States existed.

Yes towns people would get together under a 'meeting' to sort out problems under the watchful eyes of the King's troops. Now, holding a town meeting was considered illegal, since the King had assigned people to do that. Unfortunately those people were often ineffective at governing anything beyond a mug of ale. So the colonists would get around the law by a loophole. So long as they did not officially end a meeting, it was not considered a full meeting. This worked for the colonists and the governing body from the King. Because the King's people really didnt care if farmer Bill needed a bridge to get his produce to market in town; but was important to farmer Bill's family. Other families might use that bridge too for other things. So when the meeting was to end they would put forth a vote to adjourn until the next time.

To this day, Democracy is alive and well in the Northeast. Maybe those of you in those RED STATES should demand better government from those Republican/Tea Party failures? You seem pissed at government, and they, right now represent that government. In the next election, go with a COOL COLOR on the ballot. Those people will understand that if they dont get their shit together ASAP, they'll get voted out of office (aka competition). When there is no competition, the GOP/TP can be absolutely useless and not care about the common people.

lovmuffin -> RE: Lost Causes (6/30/2015 11:22:36 AM)

How about the title Dumbest Penguin. Where is it codified that "its 'ok' to harass, beat, and even kill GLBTs"? Where do you come up with that from ? That sort of mentality isn't going around in my state as far as I e ever heard.
