quote:
ORIGINAL: KenDckey There is something about lost causes that just contine to attract people. I like lost causes too, although a lot of it depends on what the cause is for, along with what (or who) a cause is against. quote:
Just one example - Political Correctness. Under that philosophy, if something offends, then it must be wrong and therefore destroyed. In fact, people can say offensive stuff all the time and be protected by the First Amendment. They can't go to jail for it, and they certainly can't be "destroyed." There might be other consequences, depending on the circumstances - and there are situations where PC might go a bit overboard. I agree that some tweaking might be in order; perhaps it could be toned down a bit to a more reasonable level. But what would the actual "cause" be? Freedom of speech? We already have that. It may need some fine tuning, but I don't think it's reached the point of a lost cause yet. quote:
I know a guy that is offended by computers. Seems it is to easy for big bro to use it's information against us. Yeah, I know a guy like that, too. That is truly a lost cause, as it appears that computers are here to stay, at least for however long civilization lasts. quote:
I know a guy that is offended by the amount of methane in the air - specifically that produced by cows. I'm not sure if that's political correctness or if it's environmentalism. Some might say that environmentalism is a lost cause, although it's not one the GOP would readily take on. Even Democrats are somewhat hampered in terms of how far they can actually go, which can frustrate some of the more staunch environmentalists. quote:
I know a guy that is offended by eating meat. In all 3 cases, those that are offended want to do away with what they are offended by because they are offended and that is politically correct. I'm not sure if that would be an example of political correctness, either. But they can have my western bacon double cheeseburger when they can pry it from my cold, dead hands. I'll get behind that cause, and I don't care if anyone says it's politically incorrect.
