Patient Wins $500k Lawsuit Against Surgeon Who Insulted Him During Colonoscopy
Doctors undergo bedside manner training while they're in med school, but it looks like that all went out the window when this patient was sedated.

A Virginian man's phone was accidentally recording audio while he was sedated and undergoing a colonoscopy.
And it picked up some pretty harsh comments from his doctor, Tiffany Ingham.
Like, really harsh.
Anesthesiologist Tiffany Ingham called the man, who was only identified as "D.B.", a "retard", a "wuss" and said that he was "annoying", which really isn't that big of a deal when you consider the first two insults. For all we know he could've been kinda annoying.
The phone also picked up Ingham telling a medical assistant she'd might get "syphilis on [her] arm or something" if she touched a rash on D.B. But then followed up by saying "It's probably tuberculosis in the penis, so you'll be all right."
D.B. then took her to court for malpractice.

D.B's phone didn't just pick up the mean comments - he also heard Ingham and other doctors discussing how they avoided him, instructed an assistant to lie to him and even altered his chart with false diagnosis. Which is way more serious than telling a guy who's asleep that you want to "punch him in the face" in the hopes that he'll "man up."

D.B. originally sued for $1.75 million, but settled for $500k.

The jury awarded him $50k for the tuberculosis and syphilis comments, and $200k for medical malpractice. Hopefully it's enough money to help his hurt feelings.

In other news, doctors everywhere are now requiring patients to turn off their phones so they can insult them in peace.

Donald Trump Sues Univision For $500 Million

Donald Trump, a Republican presidential candidate, is suing Univision. The Spanish-language TV network dropped its coverage of Miss USA and Miss Universe — two beauty pageants that Trump co-owns — because of Trump's remarks about Mexican immigrants during his presidential campaign announcement on June 16. NBCUniversal also dropped the pageant programming.

NPR's Andrew Limbong reports that Trump is seeking $500 million, and that in the suit, Trump claims Univision is attempting to suppress his freedom of speech.

Here's an excerpt from The Trump Organization's statement:

"Under the contract, Univision is required to broadcast the pageant live on television in Spanish. While Univision claims its decision came solely in response to comments by Mr. Trump during a June 16 campaign speech announcing his candidacy for President of the United States, the decision was, in reality, a politically motivated attempt to suppress Mr. Trump's freedom of speech under the First Amendment as he begins to campaign for the nation's presidency."

In an email to Politico, Univision spokesperson Monica Talan called the complaint "both factually false and legally ridiculous." She adds:

"We will not only vigorously defend the case, but will continue to fight against Mr. Trump's ongoing efforts to run away from the derogatory comments he made on June 16th about Mexican immigrants. Our decision to end our business relationship with Mr. Trump was influenced solely by our responsibility to speak up for the community we serve."

NPR's Greg Allen reported on Trump's comments last week:

" 'When do we beat Mexico at the border?' Trump said during his lengthy presidential announcement speech at Trump Tower in New York. 'They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.' "

Trump continues to defend what he said. Tuesday's statement quotes him in part saying, "There is a high level of crime occurring in this country due to unchecked illegal immigration. This is a major security issue for the United States."

In the first story, the doctor is dead wrong. I don't insult my patients on any way...hell, they're the ones paying my bills.

Second story...as obnoxious as the Donald is, surely you don't deny that illegal immigrants have brought problems to this country, do you?

I read the donald`s statement in that silly way speaks......

Hilarious.

Something tells me though that Univision's lawyers checked and concluded that they could back out.

Question,   trump`s bigot presidential announcement comments aside, must Univision (or any outfit) accept ANY comments no matter how repulsive?

That link didn't work for me, but I found another source of the same story: http://www.dallasnews.com/lifestyles/health-and-fitness/health/20150624-jury-awards-500k-to-patient-who-recorded-doctors-insults-during-colonoscopy.ece

It seems that the defendants didn't put up much of a defense, since it was all on tape. They tried to reach the doctor for comment, but it turns out she moved out of state and is ducking calls. It seems rather hypocritical on her part to refer to her patient as a "wimp" and a "wuss," since she's obviously too cowardly to stand up and defend her actions publicly.

I think something should be added to the patient's bill of rights. They should have the right to record any and all procedures they undergo.

He insultingly lumped all Hispanics together labeling them "Mexicans".

Which in not only bigoted but displays an unsophisticated, ignorant and simplistic world view .

Then called most of them criminals, drug dealers and rapists.

The part about "when Mexico sends their people" shows as well how stupid trump is. I mean must I explain that the gov. of Mexico doesn't "send their people" or that most illegals are not Mexican or from Mexico?

Maybe trump isn`t like archy bunker but is using the bigoted clownish terms to appeal to republican voters.

He was in 2nd place New Hampshire and after doubling down on the rapist comments,he`s now is 2nd place in Iowa.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/01/politics/iowa-poll-donald-trump-scott-walker/

Or maybe that`s the real trump......doesn`t matter. He`s screwed in one of the most coveted demographics in America, voters w/ Spanish names.

You can`t un-ring that bell ......republicans.

He`ll never get that back and his 2nd place status must have the republicans who are allowed to think freely a bit scared.

Like train wreck scared

My boss had the lazy habit of laying his radio mic on the car seat next to him rather than putting it in the clip on the dash. One lucky day, for me because I kept my mouth shut...not my boss, after leaving City Hall and a contentious discussion with the Mayor. My X-boss decided to call the Mayor a dumb ass cocksucker while setting on the mic key broadcasting on an open mic to all departments in the city... including the one on the Mayors desk.

ANother trump victory
Macy's is done with Donald Trump.

The department store said Wednesday it has cut ties with the billionaire Republican presidential hopeful, who said last month that Mexican immigrants are "bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists."

Macy's said it will phase out a Trump menswear collection that has been sold at the retailer since 2004.

"We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico," the Cincinnati-based company said in a statement. "We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation."

The move comes after more than 728,000 people singed a MoveOn.org petition urging Macy's to dump Trump.

The retailer is the latest to cut ties with Trump over his comments.

On Tuesday, billionaire Carlos Slim -- the richest man in Mexico and one of the world's wealthiest -- said he dropped a television project his production studio Ora TV was working on with Trump.

"His statement was totally out of line," Slim's spokesman and son-in-law Arturo Elias said in a statement to Reuters. "Working with someone so closed-minded was not going to work."

Last week, Spanish-language network Univision scrapped plans to air the Miss Universe pageant because of Trump's comments. Trump owns half of the Miss Universe Organization, and said Tuesday he has filed a $500 million suit against Univision. On Monday, NBCUniversal -- which owns the other half of the organization -- dropped the Miss USA pageant scheduled to air later this month and next January's Miss Universe contest.

Following Macy's announcement, Trump said he welcomed the end of his relationship with the retailer.

"Clearly, NBC and Macy’s support illegal immigration, which is totally detrimental to the fabric of our once great country," he said in a statement posted on Instagram. "Both Macy’s and NBC totally caved at the first sight of potential difficulty with special interest groups who are nothing more than professional agitators, who are not looking out for the people they purport to represent, but only for themselves."

Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Au Contraire, we don't know how the guy acted in pre op. My guess would be pretty bad for her to want to punch him in the face. But since that side of the story wasn't recorded, only two people really know why the Dr acted the way she did.

fuck Rob I agree with you.
Im NOT saying that she should have got away with being an ugly bitch
but there are reasons doctors AND nurses talk about some patients when they are unconscious....and always have.
THe fact that she seems to have changed his charts is WRONG, more wrong to me than calling him names.

SO he really did say ALL mexicans, ALL the mexican people, "ALL Mexicans", which is the only way anyone could sanely conclude that he meant ALL mexicans.

I suppose the over the top PC loons want him to say and there was pedro-here is his thumb print and dick size, and gonzales and here is his thumb print and dick size etc etc.

Do explain for the unsophisticated simpletons out here the proper way he should have addressed mexican immigration without the use of the word 'mexican'.
