That was an interesting video. When I was a kid, I think I was probably more heavily influenced by the "Lost Cause" version of the Civil War. A lot of the Confederate imagery at that time was presented in more of a quaint, innocuous, and nostalgic manner, which may have caused many people to dissociate it from the actual causes and motivations leading up to the formation of the Confederacy and the Civil War. I recall an episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies" where Granny somehow believed that the Confederates won the Civil War. There was also a Bugs Bunny cartoon where Yosemite Sam was a Confederate officer and corners a bunch of "Yankees" in a baseball dugout. I think a lot of us were given a somewhat whitewashed, romanticized version of the Civil War which we eventually had to come to terms with. I think the man in the video is correct in that we need to look at what actually happened with a clearer and more objective viewpoint, realizing that it was not some kind of "noble rebellion," but an armed insurrection to preserve and expand the institution of slavery. Most people seem to be okay with the idea of ditching the Confederate flag, but there are still a few stubborn holdouts. I don't think the Confederate flag should be banned outright, but public perceptions aren't the same as they once were. It's not something that can be just explained away as easily, not like it used to be.
