I played WoW a long time ago and have recently started playing again (with the Worlds of Draenor expansion). Are there any lifestyle-themed guilds out there? It would be amazing to play with like-minded individuals.

Thank Y/you!

Too bad <AuctionHouseSlaves> is no longer up and running. I am an old Warcraft fan since before WoW and used to host Warcraft III servers and some WoW emu servers. I like the new patch so far. Can't wait to rep up and get flying.

Perhaps it's because I've been gone for so long, but I really like the expansion and the recent update. The game does feel soooo much easier to play, yet you're totally disconnected from the social component of it. :(

I've yet to get the newest expansion - that will come once I've got a job, and therefore a regular income - but my Battletag is disgaldrar #2982.

It's a double edged sword for me. I liked the old vanilla WoW (that is what they call the original release from 10 years ago) where you had to join a guild and organize 40 people to run a raid. I was a GM back then and Membership apps for our guild were online, but I personally interviewed hundreds of people on the phone to select our membership.

I DO NOT miss spending 4-6 hours trying to complete one raid, that can only happen on the raid days the your guild schedules. I DO NOT miss saving up DKP points so I can bid on an item for my class when it finally drops. I like the personal loot system. I like that you can run LFR quickly and gear up enough to go raid in normal or heroic modes.

The cross-realm raid finder where you queue up in 20 - 30 minutes and run with a group of 25 strangers, completing the raid in less than 2 hours is OK by me. But I have never had more laughs, more fun or felt more victorious when I we downed the last boss in a 40 man raid.

MC Raiders song & video

Remember when spells were ranked? Healers actually cast low rank low power spells to conserve mana. You were looked down on for over healing because you wasted mana. This video pretty well summed up raiding in Vanilla WoW. What Was Raiding Really Like in Classic WoW?

The newer content feels like the experience and immersion is nerfed in favor of a huge push to raid with concomitant massive repetitive grind to get better gear.

Yes, the game play is easer. But the feeling of accomplishment at leveling a toon is no longer there. Buy a boost to 90 and try to figure out how to play it in ten easy levels.

BTW... The first tier of Hellfire is actually easier in Normal than LFR.

^ Gotta put that ammo in the canons when it drops so they blow the door open. Not much of a mechanic. Blackwing Lair was harder than that. Yes, I agree they dumbed the game down.

@disgaldrar

WoW now allows you to convert in-game gold for playtime. You can purchase tokens from the Auction House for a month's subscription. I have heard that many players can afford to play for free for years because of it.

@ResidentSadist

I agree with you entirely! I read some stat where something like 95% of all users never saw end-game content and that's why the LFR (Looking For Raid) finder and other nerfs were implemented.

From someone who's biggest WoW accomplishment was raiding Karazhan (with lasting memories of the encounter, where if I wasn't on my game, we'd wipe), LFR is just for the Sunday morning quarterback to pop in, spend 15 minutes to "raid", then leave. You're just going through the motions now--very little risk or appreciation of what it took to take down the end-game content in the past.

I do miss the social aspect of the game--like many who have played, I made some amazing friends, which sadly I've lost contact with. I'm hopeful to meet more amazing people--hopefully from here.

^ I loved Karazhan. Especially the Chess Event and the Wizard of Oz Opera Event . . . the new mechanics were a blast ! ! !

If enough people respond to this thread, we could post our battle tags, invite each other to friends list and schedule a raid together.

Nerd!
But can you pass the chess solo?

I had a look at this expansion, didn't like the changes to my class and what garrisons turned out to be so just got to 100 and unsubbed.
I don't really have time to invest in WoW (well it's not like you need much but I find this expac a bit boring), but it's not a bad game. Especially if you have real life friends that play.

I have an office in my house with a big (8ft x 8ft) L shaped desk. The slave and I both have workstaions at the desk, side by side and we play WoW together. She is working on her 4th capped toon now. I had 5 account because I used to be a Guild Master for <Para Bellum> and ran the gear and mats banks. That way I could craft, chant and gear up the guild . . . long before they had guild banks, you had to have alts for the bag & bank space to hold spare items. I would multibox the 5 accounts using Lax's InnerSpace and Jamba. It allowed me to run 5 man dungeons by myself and level 5 different toons at once. I had a capped toon of every class and profession. Also held some back so I had a toon at lvl 10, 20, 30, 40 etc. I always had a healer or tank at a comparable level to play with my friends while they leveled.

That's so awesome! I remember those days fondly--I didn't have the setup you do, though.

I was a Warcraft fan long before WoW came out... I had a set up advantage because I used my company graphics workstations to design Warcraft III maps. I also used the company servers to host Warcraft III games.

When WoW came out, I became a mod on a game site specializing in tips, tricks and exploits. So I was up on all the latest stuff because I knew Lax at InnerSapce and Mike at WoW Glider... Mike was in my guild. The good old days with gravity hacks, blink through walls to undeveloped game areas, wall crawl or water walk to GM Island, language hacks so you could understand both horde, alliance and the racial dialects. Do we even have racial dialects now?

All World of Warcraft Dances. A split screen video ... shows people doing the dance, like the electric slide and then the toon doing it.
