Microsoft just announced that....the shit they left out...you can have (video player...other) for $9.95 a month.

I was (once) a Microsoft fan boy.

No longer.

I use a free VLC player (I love it) and never use Microsofts vid player.. I forgot they even had one..

If you chose the upgrade option keep all your files programs media player is still there and will be so for some time – but they will disable later in the year or next year, and I do use VLC too. As outrage grows they will probably bring it back for free....silly really yu buy a dvd player and it does not ask you for cash to play the dvd etc back Ah yes those games whatever they are called – not very nice of microsoft was it and to blooter them with adverts and require your cash for getting adverts remove

Windows 10 is fine as good as Win7 & XP ( I believe its pinnacle – a rewrite code being in order) and safer, well for the moment.

They make stuff hard to find as the later editions of wnndows w ent on – setting stuff etc.
To be brief I’ve already windows 10 to look pretty much like XP as much as you can

Two options

During update unselect default settings/express settings and choose custom settings and turn off everything. As it has been designed to data mine everything you do and report back to HQ core (which requires cash, gold, shiny bobbles, etc to sustain evil core) so they may target your habits to rid you of cash.

Or turn them all off after you have updated to windows 10
Now where did they hide that again?

I've loved Win10 so far. The only issue I have is that at a certain house I absolutely have the be plugged up into the Ethernet cable. Other than that, no issues! Very easy to use, sleek and cute design as well. :)

Threads like these make me so happy that I've got the latest Macbook Pro for serious stuff, and a Chromebook for casual internet browsing.

I'll be running W10 along side it's other versions on a virtual machine, though.

does that actually work? I dont believe MS or any of the big corps.. there are always a few "catches"/disclaimers that go around what they say.. dont trust em, dont trust em, dont trust em... I have read that updates are automatic (unless you have the enterprise? version?) and that Win 10 will search your computer for illegal games, programs, etc and report back to MS or maybe turn them off (if they are MS programs)?
dont trust em, dont trust em, dont trust em...

Installed Win 10 on my netbook. The only important glitch it's got is that it can't seem to handle my closing the lid of the thing while it's still switched on. It instantly announces a glitch and that it needs to restart.

I installed it on my PC. Instantly my mouse and keyboard stopped functioning. Googled the problem on my phone, saw it was a common one, and that to fix it you had to power it off (not shut down) and restart. Did it. Worked fine since then.

Still figuring out all settings, but as there are permissions for A LOT of programs to access info, I am taking my sweet time.

I never had to use 8 or 8.1, so I can't speak to how it fares compared to them. The tiling is new to me, having gone straight from 7 to 10, but otherwise it feels comfortably familiar.

Those options are also available during install if you don't choose the default method.
I have always preferred Windows NT since the 4.0 release, later released and re-branded as Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
In Windows 8.1 I felt it was trade off and missed many of the old NT/2000/XP features.
I got Windows 10 to do what I want the way I want and it only took about a week to get familiar with it.
Now I think Windows 10 is the best user experience from Microsoft to date... very flexible and friendly interface.

Microsoft just announced that....the shit they left out...you can have (video player...other) for $9.95 a month.

I was (once) a Microsoft fan boy.

No longer.

My free upgrade came with a Media Player (video player) . . . but I use Divx (free) by default.

And $15 a year for the formerly free solitaire game!

Wasn't the Windows solitaire game called Freecell? Although not installed by default, you can get Freecell in the Windows App Store for free along with tons of other free games. Speaking of games . . . Windows 10 comes with Xbox allowing you to play on your PC and the games are available in the Store. I don't own any Xbox games so I clicked on Halo and it took me to the store where it costs @2.99.

Speaking of apps . . . I just logged into my One Drive online app on my 60" flatscreen smart TV and worked on an Excel spread sheet while lounging on the couch and watching Dr. Who with screen-on-screen in the corner. Anything that can run apps will sync up. One of the reasons I like Windows 8 and Windows 10 is that programs cost an average of $0.99 to $9.99 and you can sync many of your "apps" like One Note, Calendar, Email, Tasks, Reminders, One Drive (15 gigs online storage free) with your smart phone, tablet etc. Also, there are tons of free apps and in Windows 10 (and 8) you can uninstall with a right click option from the menu instead of fishing through the Control Panel to find what you want to remove. So I can download a bunch of the best rated free apps all at once, test drive them all and with a simple right click, get rid of the ones I don't want.

By using the free MS Office Online and Outlook (at Bing.com) with the One Drive, I can create business invoices, spreadsheets and documents and store them online for access while away from the office. When traveling or at home, my smart phone, smart TV, laptop, tablet or notebook I can access my Calendar, OneNotes, OneDrice documents and I can use type & talk to make or edit documents and invoices stored in my OneDrive online.

So for me, Windows 10 lets me access almost everything from almost anywhere on anything that can run apps. And apps are free or cheap from the Store. I only pay for the app once, even if it is installed on 4 different devices. When you log into the Store, purchased apps are "owned" and new downloads are free. And in a pinch, I can use a browser on non app compatible machines to log into Bing.com and access my MS Office Online and Outlook which have OneDrive, OneNote, Calendar, Sway, Word, Excel, Power Point and People (Social Network contacts database allowing you to add personal notes about them).

When I say Windows 10 is awesome... it is an understatement. I am running about $25 worth of apps that would have cost over $1,500 if I had to buy them as programs for the older Windows Operating systems. It is well worth your investment of 37 minutes to watch this Windows 10 - Beginners Guide [Tutorial] video for an understanding of the new features... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZqKyhfD7-E

Please Note, their is a catch, so I did not do the default install. I started with all the special Win 10 "sharing" options turned off, including OneDrive... and I am using FireFox and Internet Explorer, not Edge the MS Internet Explorer replacement. You can't do that if you default install because the Internet Icon from the menu activates the Edge.

Avoiding the privacy invading Edge ... Immediately after installing Windows 10 w/o the sharing options I was able to use the Internet Explorer to access the net and download FireFox. Once I manually turned on the OneDrive or other sharing options, Edge pops up now. I presume that Microsoft is making their money off of the free Windows 10 with Edge because it monitors your internet usage creating a database of consumer preferences they can sell as targeted advertising.

Even if you do a default install, you can avoid opening the Edge through the menu if you want to use Internet Explorer instead. To make your own "shortcut" to open Internet Explorer:
1 - Open "File Explorer". It's the Folder Icon in task bar and menu.
2 - Choose 'This PC" in menu bar on left.
3 - Open "Local Disk (C:)" in window on right.
4 - Open "Program Files"
5 - Open "Internet Explorer"
6 - Right click and drag "iexplore.exe" to your desktop (or elsewhere) and choose "Create shortcuts here".
* path: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Windows 10 is incredibly flexible and and user friendly. If you don't like 10, you can uninstall it and roll back to your old OS.

BUGS: Because I manually turned on select sharing options, my Edge Browser is broken and will freeze if I try to start it from the menu.
I had a video card issue just pop up in the World of Warcraft game with their latest patch. It ran fine for weeks until update patch. I reinstalled game, issue solved.
So far, no bugs other than that.

Turning off the privacy features... it turns out.... doesn't turn them off.

I got screwed on the "no unauthorized peripherals" clause.... as a modder... with my current monitor a hacked apple retina display panel... if I upgrade id have to buy a new monitor... which the point of making a custom monitor was because they dont make portable sized desktop monitors in 2k res...

...... Turning off the privacy features... it turns out.... doesn't turn them off.

Sorry to hear about your peripherals problem. For over a decade now, MS has been inflating the kernel with failure code so software and hardware manufacturers have to pay licensing fees for their stuff to work on Windows. Otherwise Windows would work with anything that spoke the same language and you loaded drivers for.

As far as privacy goes, that is a relative concept. You can't have any kind of software updates (automatic or otherwise) without giving up your computer ID information, much less use a web browser, get email etc. That machine info is needed to keep your computer up to date. Now personal stuff like what you surf for, what programs you have installed etc... things that would build a marketing profile, that is a different story. However, when you turn off sharing in 10, it doesn't share that kind of info, only machine info.

Your link was to a good article. That article says . . .

We've asked Microsoft if there is any way to disable this additional communication or information about what its purpose is. We were told "As part of delivering Windows 10 as a service, updates may be delivered to provide ongoing new features to Bing search, such as new visual layouts, styles and search code. No query or search usage data is sent to Microsoft, in accordance with the customer's chosen privacy settings. This also applies to searching offline for items such as apps, files and settings on the device." This is consistent with what we saw (there is no query or search data transmitted).........

I tend to not believe companies who say "it's no big deal we arent doing much" since those leaks a few years back that showed the nsa meeting with intel right before all their motherboards started being built with backdoors that allow your computer to be turned on remotely even if its never been connected to the internet... of course they say they arent going to use it.... but they also say that about printers storing everything you ever print, or smart tvs requiring you get permission from every house guest you have to have their voice recorded.... of course they just dont want to get sued. But a piece here, a piece there. An invasion of privacy, to me, is anything that attempts to force you to act under accordance of something unknown. "The collective knows best" "we will assimilate you" and what not. Those that dont fit the mold have the most to fear.

Ah.... the Intel vPro CPU w/3g radio chip. You running i3/i5/i7 CPUs?

[ETA:] BTW, in the bios there is a option where you can disable Intel AMT which turns off the vPro features.

i7 devils canyon I have it off but when a friend and I were looking into it(he got one of the last mbs without) we found out leaving the computer unplugged was the only surefire way to avoid it, and have a monitor built into linux.... that was a while ago so I dont remember all the details anymore, those links are already way gone.

Holy jebus, what sweet rig you got... is it fast enough for you? 4GHz must be real nice. Can you hack into the 3g and run your computer from your cell phone or use it as a cell phone yet? Now I understand your perspective and the the comments you have made... I should have had clue when you said you were running a hacked Apple Retina display on an Intel base system. Most people aren't that tech deep.

I used to be an AMD fanboy and thought AMD FX Black Edition (8 x 3GHz cores) was going to be the Holy Grail. What a let down. Now that a cheap Intel i5 is equal to or outperforming the best unlocked overclocked AMD in gaming benchmarks and the i7s leave the best of AMD in the dust, my long years of being an AMD fan are ending.

I see the gaming benchmarks claims for Windows 10 have been refuted by users saying that field tests show there is an actual frame rate drop by 1% - 5% depending on game. To the average user, that difference is probably imperceptible. But to the tech inclined, an Intel CPU with Win 7 vs Win 8.1 vs Win 10 shows Win 8.1 faster overall.

Happy computing you speedy devil, I have computer envy of you.

Posted a pic of bmo back when I made him.... cost between $700-$800 though that involved a lot of waiting on perfect deals... when I do a project I do it right, his face is Velcro so I can rip it off and play in bed. I think he is 4.2... havent tried overclocking him yet since everything is maxed out and running at 60fps (even those fancy pretty hair settings)... its a gtx 970 under the hood
[image][/image]
It's not black and shiny like the boys like lol

I dont go online on bmo so no need, but a while ago I checked to try to get data on my tablet and if you try to force it they automatically charge you the extra monthly cost.... my owner pays it on his phone but I dont want to risk it on mine(he doesn't pay for my phone)

I used to be an amd fangirl.... would buy amd laptops... until dragon age 3 told me that because amd didnt support its year old cards I couldnt play.... I said fuck you amd, fuck you buying new laptops every couple years and made my own solution.... and made it cute.

And I know people use the word "hacked" loosely these days... even I do, what I mean is I made the screen from a $20 retina panel.... ribbon cable and circuit board. I didnt buy a monitor and make it work. I built it.
